Lorenzo Romar is not going anywhere. The Washington coach has verbally agreed to a ten-year deal that should keep him in Seattle for the foreseeable future.
So what does that future look like?
Last week, it was announced that UW's Elston Turner would transfer from the Montlake region. While coach Lorenzo Romar has said this decision did not come as a shock, Turner's absence could impact the Huskies' outside options in 2010-11. Turner has said he is considering schools closer to Houston while his father says his son will take a look at some SEC schools.
Turner shot 38 percent from deep on the season and while that led the team, he was too inconsistent to be considered a threat. However, without Turner, the next best options are Scott Suggs and Justin Holiday; Suggs, like Turner, was too inconsistent and Holiday is better suited as a defensive stopper, not as a three-point threat and Romar has doubts to whether Holiday will emerge as a go-to scorer.
However, there is C.J. Wilcox; the 6-foot-5 guard who redshirted this season. Wilcox will be a dangerous freshman option. During the '10 preseason, he was being described as the best shooter on the squad and if he becomes dependable, lanes for Isaiah Thomas become much less tight and UW's offense should flow better.
When it comes to recruits, Romar has already done well. He locked down small forward Desmond Simmons and 7-foot-1 JC transfer Aziz N'Diaye already, and is still believed to be in the running for Portland-based teammates Terrence Jones and Terrence Ross, a possibility which becomes more likely with Turner's transfer and the announcement of Romar's extension.
Washington already looks like the class of the Pac-10 in 2011. If one or both of the Terrences opts to become a Husky, we can put this squad in the Final Four picture.

I don't see it..even if we did get the two terrences.

Me neither. UW looks like a lock to finish in the top three in the Pac-10. I'll wait to see what they look like on the court before making loftier predictions.

Yup..there are some attractive pieces..but this years team had attractive pieces..and it didn't gel until the final 6-7 games of the regular season.

lol love it.
It is also good news for UW fans. 5 NCAA appearances over 8 years? Compared to 5 NCAA appearances over the previous 20? Win-Win, everyone wins :).

Romar should have a powerhouse in Seattle, there is so much talent that routinely leaves that area it is embarrassing.
He also isn't the best in-game coach and I don't know how you can have a team that is constantly so unprepared away from home in conference.

It takes a good long while to be able to keep the good talent home. UW has just really been on kids mind maybe the last 4-5 years, with good reason to. Heck Even Michael Dickerson said he would have gone to Washington if the program was even in decent shape. The problem is when these kids were growing up..all they knew was UCLA and Arizona. Sure Washington was the local team, but it did not really have any success of either sending guys to the NBA or having good teams.
And honestly the whole UW sucks on the road is kind of a misnomer, they were 7-7 last year in Road/Neutral games, they are not traditionally a horrible team on the road. It takes awhile to get over the Arizona/UCLA hump

Not really, UW only true road wins were against teams 7-10 in the PAC standings.

While this might be true, what was the difference in standings? I mean you had 5-6 teams all within a game or two of each other.

smashie, while UW made a huge run at the end of the season to salvage a .500 road record statistically, you know full well why everyone around here thinks the Huskies are a completely different team away from Hec Ed.
Barring Larry Scott's intervention, our "independent contractors" will continue to perpetuate that view.

Oh I get that, but it is not like it is a pattern. Teams generally tend to play better at home than on the road.
Alright....so what all of this said, the question for all of you UA fans is who has more success over the next 10 years: Arizona or Washington?

Do you honestly expect anyone here (or anywhere outside of WA) to say UW? Really? REALLY?

Good point, but TBH, I think it's pretty obvious that while Romar has UW on a nice trajectory, Miller will exceed that within the next 3-4 years.

Nothing in basketball is patently obvious 3-4 years down the line.
It wasn't rhetorical.
Just curious as to your answers. Not the answer "Arizona" (that was obvious)...but how adament and certain you were in the answer.

If Washington can land some of the NW talent that will be coming out and Gaddy continues to develop, UW has a good chance of exceeding Arizona
