Ignorance. Boise State? Really?
I would have linked but it's facebook and pretty sure you can't see it unless you're friends with the original poster.

Tony Im all for expansion of the Pac-10. But if they do a SEC thing and play cream puffs in the middle of the season then I will watching even less college football.

Lee If Baylor is included, this is a failure.

Chris i agree with the prior post: if you get baylor, you dont add another tv market, but if you land colorado you get denver. however, i suppose that having one more texas team would ease a&m's apprehension of too much travel.

Tony Texas has a big inferiority complex if baylor has to come.

Dave Meanwhile, a goldmine in Boise St. still hangs out to wither in the wind. I know, I know, Boise St. isn't a large TV market, but competitively speaking, they would be a great addition to the conference.

Chris Boise St has nothing else to offer aside from football. Unless I've misunderstood something, any sort of expansion/merger would be for all sports. Or is that not the case?

Jon Football is the only thing that matters in this period, and the tv markets of course.

Lee Football is the only thing that matters in terms of the tv contracts. But to get all of the presidents on board, you're going to have to bring academcially credible institutions that can bring more than football to the table. Boise State doesn't fit either of those.

Dave Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Pac-10 kind of lacking in other sports as a whole? Ok, Oregon State won a college world series 2 years in a row, but who else competes? Oregon is doing well this year, but as a conference, when it comes to the other sports, the Pac-10 has been struggling to keep up.

Chris i think the pac ten is strong in almost everything outside of hockey and lax.

Dave Not strong enough for fans to care about anything other than Football and basketball.

Drew Boise State does NOTHING for anyone. Once the conference shifting goes down (and it will be seismic), Boise will be left, again, in a 2nd rate conference. Aside from the ancillary sports, they simply don't qualify on the academic criteria for inclusion in the Pac.

Lee Dave, you are absolutely wrong. The PAC has several directors cup contenders every year. Basketball and football may be the revenue earning sports, but PAC 10 sports go MUCH deeper than that.

Dave Director's Cup? What the hell is that? I'd venture to say that not too many people know what that is, either. I could be wrong.
Lee Okay, we'll talk about things in terms you can understand. The PAC-10 has won 390 NCAA team championships, all time. That's more than the SEC and big ten, combined. Who also happen to be #'s 2 and 3 on the all-time list. To say that the PAC doesn't care about other sports is to ignore tradition and display your own ignorance.

Ryan Good call Lee, in fact, Stanford has won the Directors Cup for 15 consecutive years. UCLA and USC are also usually in the top 5. As a matter of fact, look who is in the Softball championship final...UCLA vs Arizona. The Pac 10 is always a factor in Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, Baseball, Gymnastics, Swimming, Soccer and Track. Look it up Dave!!

Dave Sports no one cares about! Good god, man! Yes, I get that the Pac-10 has won many many championships, the issue at hand is whether or not the decision to expand takes into account the other sport, and the answer is NO. That is all I am trying to say. No one cares about Softball, Tennis, Golf. Hell, not many people care about track & field. When you take all other sports OUT of the equation, you are left with it being all about football. I'm not ignorant to the overall achievements of the conference across the board, my point is that at the heart of this, is simply a decision made with football in mind and only football in mind. So, keeping that in mind, Boise St. would make sense.

Dave You still haven't explained the Director's Cup, which makes me question if you even know what it is.
Lee Directors cup is an award to an institution based on overall sports performances. It takes into account all sports that the NCAA awards championships in. Last year 8 of the Pac 10 schools finished ranked in the top 25.
And if you really think that the Presidents of the conference are going to approve an expansion plan that includes schools that bring zero relevant sports, outside of football and basketball, then you haven't followed the conference very closely. They have long been adamant of the fact that all member institutions be of high academic and ancillary sports standards. Stanford being the biggest driving force behind that, and to approve such an expansion you need a unanimous vote. The point is, these are sports that you may not care about, but the decision makers in this process do.
Back to the point that started this trip, Boise State will never be a part of the Pac-10. Ever.
