We play both teams away, I don't really care who wins...seeing each other expose the other's weaknesses would be nice though.

Whoever wins is in the drivers seat for the Rose Bowl . . . and maybe a NC game. And it doesn't really matter to us who it is since as cheesy said we have to play both of them away. Personally I think we match up better with Oregon, so I'd like to see them win this game. But of course if Oregon wins convincingly then my estimation of how we match up with them might change.

Honestly I don't know who should win becuase either way I am not sure whp can beat these two teams in the Pac-10 anyways.
If someone held a gun to my head I would say I want Stanford to win. I think that in general the schedule favors Stanford more than Oregon.

Ever since going up 21-3, Stanford has laid down like a pile of feces. Their offensive play calling is been atypically dumb, and their defense is like cheap swiss cheese, the kind with the really big holes that tastes like old shoes.
Either way, I think this game bodes well for UA, because I think they have the best defense of the 3. Hopefully the OL can improve and help UA run the ball better by November.

Arizona tends to match up well with Oregon. The Cats tend to play good assignment football on defense and that's what you have to do against the Ducks. The big problem against Oregon is the pace they play at. By the time the game's over, it feels like they've played five or six quarters.

Not sure if this is tongue-in-cheek or what, but I think this is wrong. I will say Stanford's defense is still a liability. Marecic's a nice story, but the fact he's playing both ways should tell you something about their defensive depth.
Oregon goes on a 49-10 run after getting in the early hole. That's f***ing impressive. They sure look like the front-runner to me, and by a fair margin based on what I've seen from everyone in the Pac so far.
All I have to say is that Oregon and Stanford are clearly way overrated. This is Arizona's conference to lose, baby!!!!
Autzen still will account for some points for UO when we play them. I hope we can get off to a fast start to keep the crowd out of it. It doesn't hurt that we have an extra week to prepare for them. It also doesn't help that they have an extra week to prepare for us. Lots to take care of between now and then.

I wonder if there's any chance of the Pac getting two teams into the BCS this year. I'd think that if someone runs the table, and then our 2nd or 3rd place team ends up with one loss, it could happen. For example, if Oregon goes undefeated and Stanford does not lose again, I could see them both getting in. It depends, of course, on what happens with other teams. But I'd just love to see two Pac teams playing on or after New Year's.
Wildcat2012
10-03-2010, 12:42 AM
I think there is a really good chance the Pac-10 has two BCS teams, assuming we have two teams with no more than 2 losses. I think the conference's strong showing the non-conference opened people's eyes and as a result our teams will get some favorable rankings this year.
catgrad97
10-03-2010, 01:59 AM
But not Arizona, no matter how well the Cats do.
Sorry, but after this game I still strongly feel that the national perception is that there is nobody else from the Pac who will be in Pasadena Jan. 1 other than Oregon or Stanford.
Arizona is the team with the best shot to prove that perception wrong, and it got absolutely no love tonight during the Stanford-UO broadcast.
And, to the pollsters' defense, the Cats--to a man, even among the coaches--didn't exactly play last week like they have been in the Top 15 before, much less deserve to be there. Just hope the Cats move off unlucky #13 or don't move down in next week's polls, as there really just isn't enough support anywhere to see a multispot ascension in the AP or coaches' rankings.
Ultimately, I am heartened by the outcome of tonight's Oregon-Stanford game. It certainly didn't begin that way. Stanford's 21-3 start was absolutely the best single-quarter performance of any Pac-10 team this season, just beating out our hot start against Iowa. Everything was hitting on all cylinders.
Thank God the Cardinal cooled off, or give Harbaugh the CCOY and Rose Bowl bid right now. They were taking all of Oregon's best punches and shoving them right back in Duck faces like they were nothing.
Andrew Luck, even after the loss, is ahead of Nick Foles as a dual-threat QB. He is not afraid to run at all and got a couple big gains as well as important first downs for Stanford tonight. Plus he pump-fakes and looks off receivers just as well as Foles at this point, if not better.
Arizona football has historically not had much of a mid-season learning curve. The next two months better change that or Luck and LaMichael James are going to just wear us down.
Oregon is an offensive machine and a second-half team. With the right improvements and careful study of the Ducks'--and Luck's--schemes, however, Arizona will be able to hold its own with both teams.
The way Stanford faded in the second half bodes particularly well for the Cats, as the Cardinal has the most ineffective home-field advantage in the conference. However, that Autzen Stadium advantage has stolen games from teams, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Chip Kelly work the refs enough to steal a win away from Stoops at home.
And speaking of working the refs, whoever in the media OR on this site watched this game and would still continue to call Mike Stoops' sideline antics "excessive," please shut up.
The only difference between how Stoops conducts himself during games and how Kelly and Harbaugh do the same is that Stoops hasn't learned how to strategically hold himself back and "make nice" with the intellectual giants of the West Coast, Pacific 10 officiating crews. The refs get what they perceive as "more respect" from the Stanford and Oregon coaches, while Stoops calls them out honestly, without holding back.
He also doesn't worry about making any friends on the crews, and that continues to cost his team on borderline calls. But the conference's "superior" coaches like Kelly and Harbaugh can, and did tonight, lose just as much control in any given sideline situation as Mike Stoops has. They just understand how to work it to their advantage better than he does right now.
All that being said, if this Arizona team gets back to playing like it started against Iowa and dedicates itself to improving its performance from that point, there is no reason why the Wildcats won't have just as good a shot at Roses as either Stanford or Oregon.
But it will take continuous drive to be the best--and an end to these relaxed, unfocused, sloppy games. This team CAN do it. Go Cats!
I think a lot of QBs are ahead of foles in the Dual threat department.:) As far as natural talent and ceiling, Luck is better than Foles (even though Luck runs like a duck, he has a great penchant for getting a first down with his legs when nothing is there, not to mention that he ran down that UO DB and pushed him out of bounds). That said, I'll take my chances with foles. Dude is a gamer and a flat out winner.

Oh, I would too, and I meant that post as no slam against Foles.
Luck is the more pro-style QB, and I have a hunch he'll go higher in the draft--even though Foles IMO has the higher ceiling overall.
But Nick, like he's said himself this weekend, needs to continue to improve his offensive abilities in all areas. The spread can be choked off by even an average defense if that O cannot make the D respect the run.
And right now, our overall rushing attack is 90th in the NCAA--and Nick Foles couldn't sell that he could run to Andrea Bocelli. (Yes, you'll just have to figure out who I'm talking about, as Ray Charles is dead and the Stevie Wonder reference is getting old. :) )
I sincerely hope Arizona can respond to the bye week by putting OSU away early next Saturday. Get the run going immediately, let the spread fill the remaining gaps and not let an inferior team like the Beavs or Wazzu hang around, as lesser UA teams have been notorious for doing.

The one weakness I see with Oregon other than their fans being idiots. Is the D does give up the big play where they let receivers get behind the secondary. So it's a good thing their offense put up the points. Oregon in my estimation is just plain good.
I'd stack them up against any team in the very overrated SEC except Alabama.

the rushing attack is 90 because Grigsby is getting most the runs. I wish the coaching staff would acknowledge grigsby is a slot back not a featured tailback. KA and Nwoko should get the rock more than grigsby. when he is about to carry the ball i get the knot circa mike bell in my stomach.
dude dances way to much and until we get his a$$ out of there the cal game isnt going to be an isolated game. Defenses are going to play zone all day. Does anyone think thats the last time we are going to see that D cal ran. Nope everyone is gonna scheme that way. We need a NORTH--SOUTH runner. Nwoko gives us great push, see him maybe 4 plays a game, I forgot Keola was even on the team. Grigsby fumbles, dances and really isnt effective unless he is out in the open field

Nwoko gives us great push, see him maybe 4 plays a game, I forgot Keola was even on the team. Grigsby fumbles, dances and really isnt effective unless he is out in the open field
Couldn't disagree more. The problem with he running game is the OL, specifically your bro Dotsy being injured and slow to regain playing shape. It's not Grigs, he's still the best RB on the roster, still the most complete back, still the HR hitter. Keola I think seeks out contact instead of trying to avoid it, classic little-man's syndrome. Nwoko was TERRIBLE against Cal last week, dude also ran to contact all night. The running game will struggle though no matter which RB is in there until the OL improves their run-blocking.

Again, I will stand by conviction that the result of the Cal game is how Arizona vs Cal games generally go and is not and indictment on this year's team at this moment in time.
Its really unfair and shortsighted to point to this game as evidence that we are undeserving of our ranking. Lets just let it play out.

I am not sure why we are talking about rushing in this thread but I wanted to share some info.
Arizona: National rank followed by actual number
Rushing attempts/game: 110th @ 29.25
Rushing average/ attempt: 63rd @ 4.11
Yards/game: 93rd @ 120.25
The reason I bring these number up is that you can not blame just one unit. The coaches are calling an incredible low amount of rushing plays while the Oline and RB's are holding to a 4.11 yards/attempt. I have to say that is decent, but I don't think either are terrible. Average rushing and above average passing is pretty good for me.
