Baylor senior guard LaceDarius Dunn has been suspended indefinitely following an arrest for aggravated assault following what police are calling a domestic dispute with his long-time girlfriend.

The incident, according to the Waco Police Department, occurred on Sept. 27 when officers were called to Hillcrest Hospital to investigate an assault.

Waco Sergeant Melvin Roseborough told FOXSports.com that Dunn was charged with second degree felony.

Lacharlesia Edwards, 21, suffered a fractured jaw after what policed called an argument in which the 23-year-old Dunn punched Edwards in the face.

However, Edwards’ father, told FOXSports.com on Tuesday that the incident was an accident.

``She said it was an accident,” Charles Edwards told FOXSports.com. ``She said she sneaked up on him in the dark and he hit her by mistake. It wasn’t a fight at all.”

``She doesn’t want to press charges or anything like that,” he added. ``She’s torn up now that he’s been arrested.”

Charles Edwards said his daughter and Dunn have been dating since junior high school and have a 3-year-old son, Dillion, together.

``I’ve known him for a while and was hearing nasty things, so I drove down from Monroe, Louisiana to Dallas to find out,” he said. ``I knew it was out of character, so I wanted to see for myself.”

``My daughter is much better,” Edwards added. ``She’s fine. She and I really both thought this had already been dropped.”

Baylor put out a statement following Dunn’s arrest on Tuesday that he has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities while the school continues to ``gather all the facts surrounding this incident.”

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Dunn is considered one of the top returning players in the country after averaging 19.6 points last season for a Bears team that lost to Duke in the Elite Eight.

WACO, Texas -- Baylor guard LaceDarius Dunn has been cleared by the university to return to classes while he faces allegations that he broke his girlfriend's jaw in a domestic dispute, his attorney said Thursday.

Attorney Vikram Deivanayagam said Dunn would be in class Thursday, a day after a Baylor disciplinary panel lifted a suspension imposed last week.

Deivanayagam said the leading scorer from last year's NCAA regional finalist remains suspended from the team because he still faces a felony aggravated assault charge.

Police say Dunn's girlfriend, Lacharlesla Edwards, had her jaw broken in two places Sept. 27. She says her jaw wasn't broken and Dunn did not hit her. Edwards wants charges dropped and Dunn reinstated.

DALLAS — Baylor guard LaceDarius Dunn will be allowed to practice but remains suspended indefinitely from games while facing allegations that he broke his girlfriend's jaw in a domestic dispute, coach Scott Drew said Thursday.

Baylor begins practice Friday. A Baylor disciplinary panel earlier this week allowed him to return to class.

Drew made the announcement in a statement released by the university, which said he would make no further comment.

The Baylor University Judicial Affairs Disciplinary Committee heard evidence Wednesday and found Dunn "not guilty of assaulting a female which resulted in her jaw being broken," Dunn's attorney, Vikram Deivanayagam, said in a statement, quoting from a letter he said he received from the panel.

Deivanayagam said he was not allowed to attend the hearing and Baylor has declined comment on the case.

"Obviously, we are pleased with their decision," Deivanayagam said. "We are also grateful for the opportunity Baylor University provided Mr. Dunn to defend himself of the charge."
