View Full Version : UCLA Football Recruiting

Why any recruit would choose to go to UCLA is beyond me. That was just about the most boring GameDay experience I have ever witnessed. I've seen Conference USA schools with much better tailgating, crowd support, and enthusiasm. I know that they have been playing in the Rose Bowl for years but traveling 30 miles to your home stadium from campus just kills the fun, IMO.

On another note I thought the UofA fans shined in the tailgating experience but were a little quiet during the game. I dressed for rain and cold, instead I sweat and got sun burned.

Good school, nice location / campus and is close to home for a lot of great athletes. It doesn't appear that UCLA does a good job developing the talent they recruit though

The quality of a UCLA education (mixed in with its location) are what allow UCLA to recruit well. Nothing about the football program or stadium is drawing anyone to that school.

It wasnt the best yesterday but UCLA isn't that good and there was a threat of rain. When their is more support for the program, the tailgating is one of the best out there.

Not sure how that relates to recruiting though?

I guess it sounds ridiculous to say, but I get the feeling that UCLA players are at UCLA for more reasons than football, reasons which can result in football getting placed on the back burner for some of these players.

You're in a great city, the academics can be good, etc - what if some players are just using their football scholly's to focus on other opportunities? Like getting out of Virginia or Texas and living in a real city?

UCLA has never had a problem bringing in big name talent, but once there a lot gos to shot.

One guy who happened to work out well was Jonathan Ogden, but even he was there for other reasons. Ogden came to UCLA to play Track & Field too. He dated actresses and tried out for WWE or whatever it was. I doubt he would've had the chance for that at other schools.

Just a heads up, but Virginia and Texas are not cities. Also, while UCLA's campus is amazing, L.A. isn't any different than Houston, Dallas, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, or any other major U.S. city. UCLA is a brand name known across the country and a tremendous academic school. I would be beyond proud to send my child to play athletics and UCLA.

UCLA does not really focus a lot of time and effort recruiting outside of Califronia

uhhh at USC football has tradition and has more players in the pros than any other school right now...also they aren't UCLA, which is who this thread is about.

As stated above, location (for a ton of SoCal kids who grew up in the area/don't want to leave cause its weird) academics and their overall athletics program is pretty phenomenal, that's why people go there. It will never be hard to recruit at USC or UCLA for all those reasons.

No, College GameDay was at USC. The thread was created because of how "boring" College GameDay was. Am I taking crazy pills? Seriously, I once again find myself in the Twilight Zone when I come to GOAZCATS.

I'm sure he was referring to the GameDay traditions at UCLA, like the atmosphere. It pretty much sucks (I went 2 years ago) but that's because UCLA stinks right now.

Ah, I see. I was duped by the capitalization of "GameDay" instead of "game day". I also watched College GameDay on Saturday and had the same thoughts regarding the broadcast from USC. Nevermind me, carry on with the UCLA bashing...
