I know Stoops didn't think to do it, despite his halftime lies...err...comments....but I bet any one of these woulda known to call the timeout.

Stoops gave up. He gives the persona of hard working, fighting to the end and Stoops just gave up coaching that half. Good or bad coaching withstanding, I have seriously lost some respect for Stoops. He knew what was going on and just gave up. His interview showed the same thing.
What can you say during the half time speech when every kid is thinking the same thing? I gave up? they wouldn't give us anything? I was too emotional? Whatever the truth is, it was stupid by all accounts.
( I needed my rant, sorry for no pics)

He generally has always looked like a fool, just has not always acted like one. Now he has removed all doubt. Besides being called out for lying by ESPN regarding the timeout.

That confirmed a lot about what I thought his sideline outbursts demonstrate.

I'm sick of the undisciplined teams. I'm sick of the stupidity.
Stoops is like Jamelle Horne over and over again. He does this crap every game. He gets so worked up he can't even think straight.
And I'm tired of losing football games because of him.
I'm ready to trust whoever the hell Byrne is ready to hire.

Can someone explain what went down, I missed the last few minutes of the 1st half in the shower and his interview, so what about a time out and him lying?

I think youre absolutely right about this, he gets all worked up and then when he needs to make a split second call like this he cant think straight enough to make the right call on time. We see this often on offense too, they cant get subs and plays in on time half the time they try.

But it really is true, it's mainly the undisciplined teams. It's just embarrasing. It's stupid crap over and over again.

See this lends to my theory that the players are no longer responding to Stoops and have lost respect for him. Why? Because you and others continue to mention undisciplined teams but the fact is until the second half of the season last year and all of this year, until then, Stoops teams were one of the least penalized and most disciplined teams in the pac ten, nut then the second half of the season last year and all of this year, that changed, they have become undisciplined, sloppy and one of the most penalized teams in the conferance if not the nation.
From about mid season last year to last nights game the players have quit on Stoops, likely tired of his antics and berating nature and IF this is the case he will never get that back, it means its time to make a coaching change.

At the end of the day, all you have is theory though. Which is really next to nothing. I could theorize just as easily and as authoritatively that the problems lie more with players responses to the assistant coaches, and the changes in duties specifically on the offensive line, the RBs and the secondary which were the 3 biggest problem areas personnel & performance wise this season. But, all I have is theory. Difference is, you cling to your theories like dogma, when all they are, is theory.

Re: the lie: http://tucsoncitizen.com/wildcatreport/2010/12/30/stoops-on-letting-first-half-expire-i-thought-it-was-fourth-and-25/
One of the many, many — and we do mean many — missed opportunities for Arizona came late in the first half when it reached the Oklahoma State 39 in the final minute.
The Wildcats trailed 23-7 at the time.
On third-and-10, Nick Foles connected on a deep pass to Travis Cobb near the goal line, but Cobb was penalized for pass interference.
On third-and-25, Nic Grigsby ran for 13 yards, getting close to the Oklahoma State 40-yard line with about five seconds left. Arizona had a chance to call a timeout and try a Hail Mary pass.
On the sideline, coach Mike Stoops was taking off his headphones and beginning to walk to the locker room. Players or other coaches might have been trying to call timeout, but not Stoops. The clock ran out.
“I thought the couple scoring drives before the half, not getting points, really hurt us,” Stoops said in the postgame news conference.
“We had a couple opportunities there. You know, the play before the half, I thought it was fourth-and-25. That was my fault. Again, I thought offensive interference lost a down. So we just missed those opportunities to close it to a two-score game.”
Oy vey.

I still don't understand where he got the idea that pass interference was a lost of down. Was this an old rule? or did he just not pay attention while he was a DC and HC?

You know what, I can honestly say that's too bad, I mean the time out call out, the bad loss, stoops throwing fits left and right, okay I know Berkut and I (a few others involved) disagreed about how stoops' sideline behavior affects the team but I'm going to man up and be the first to say there's got to be some bad vibes being projected to the players(no timeout? Great way to let the team no coach gave up), I'm TOTALLY blown away by how stoopid a move it was not to call a timeout and as previously stated above you could tell just by the look of frustration/disgust on his face that, yes he'd given up, Stoops: thanks for the rebuild and for all the bowls (3 in a row) but if you sh!t the bed again next season, well good luck on your next job, frankly I'm tired of the camera panning over to our sideline and seeing our FB coach spittin freakin flames in every refs ear, classless and distastefully done in every incident. I'm done.
Him not calling a timeout before half bothers the **** (insert bad four letter word) out of me, why would a coach do that? It's ridiculous. My respect for stoops took a major blow after that showing. Guess I wasn't done.

This explanation doesn't make any sense either. If Stoops had thought the previous play was a 4th down and they didn't get the 25 yards, then it would have been a turnover on downs AND THE CLOCK WOULD HAVE STOPPED!

very true, i wonder if he's been diagnosed with some sort of chemical imbalance, if so apparently he skips his meds prior to kickoff.

Maybe he didn't call a timeout because he has no faith in his FG kicker...MAX he is not! Maybe he didn't call a timeout because Foles was not on his A game that night. Why throw another INT in the end zone. Maybe he didn't call a timeout because he was afraid of another WR dropping the 4th down catch and giving OSU one more shot to throw a 60 yard bomb for a TD.
Plenty going through his mind right before half. Did Stoops quit on this team or did this team stop playing at Halftime of the IOWA game.
I am so looking forward to next year because Floes and the CATS seems to start off the season playing well and then tank by mid OCT. Our schedual works out great for us to knock off all the top teams in the PAC right outta the blocks. Then hopefully we can hold on down the stretch VS the cupcakes of the PAC!

this makes more sense than the other but you are right..it would have stopped so in the end it doesn't make too much...
of course stoops deserves to be crucified for this but what about the rest of the team and the coaches? they need to be lumped in there together...no offensive coach was telling him to call time out? foles couldn't do it? nobody else on the field could do it?
it is, ultimately, on the head coach but everyone on that sideline deserves to be thrown under the bus as well.
