View Full Version : Is it only me or does anybody else feel that Taimi Tutogi is under used??

This is not rocket science I don't care how you break it down. Common sense says: If you need a yard or 2, would you rather give it to 160 lb back when soaking wet or a 250 lb beast??

Give TT #31 the damn ball!!!

I totally agree with the first two posts in this thread. I am convinced that by the end of the season, Litrell and Anae will be at each others throats or Anae will be named OC.

Frustrated by 8 years of Stoops doing that. Give them ball to EMFM!!!!!

Had me yelling at the TV: fourth and one, and even though Oklahoma State's defense had been breaking through and getting to our backs pretty quick, lets give it to tiny Antolin rather than someone big like Tutogi who can just bust through.

Stoops loves his game plans!

Yep. Just one of many many things wrong with this offense.

Anae SHOULD be the OC.

I agree. I believe Litrell rode on Bedenbaugh's coat tails last year and that he is in WAY over his head. A classic Stoops move would be naming Litrell and Anae Co-coordinators...lol

If I correctly recall, didn't Tutogi have fumblitus last season?

I think his biggest problem was that he had stone hands when trying to catch the ball.

Selfo should be OC.

Robert Anae should be OC and its not even really a debate IMO. Why Stoops has went with Seth over a much more experienced Anae is beyond belief. I wouldnt be opposed to Scelfo though, he certainly would use Foles more to our advantage.

How many play makers are under used?

TT, Buckner, Wharton (needs a chance), Carey, probably Jenkins. Heck Foles with deeper throws.

Seth loves two players, Criner and Antolin. The reason Hill had so many receptions was because he played Criners spot and if you filled him with any person that reciever would had the most catches.

Morrison and Wharton can be used on the sweep. Heck be creative and put a RB in the slot and TT in the RB and run some sweeps.

Very true but I will throw this in. Seth calls the passing plays but Foles is supposed to go through his progressions. Foles usually throws to his #1 or #2....if those two windows are shut he either panics or forces the pass.

On what basis though, I cant honestly say I am aware of Scelfo's history, I know Anae's and he knows his offense, but yea, either would be better than what we have now it seems.

Your right, and how many of those are curls and short crosses? How many times did our wideouts run deep? Seth calls the plays.

Man, I would love to see short crosses, slants, and skinny posts in the middle of the field. Seth does call the plays...no excuses for that.

I don't think Scelfo wants it. I bet he likes just working with the QB's and not have any of the pressure.

He has been around and has been a OC a couple of times but went back to just QB's and I just think he wants to stay at that position.

Scelfo has plenty of experience running offenses, and plenty of experience as a head coach... If he wanted it I would give the job to him as soon as monday morning...

Scelfo was a HC for 2 different high schools. He does not have HC experience in the college ranks but he has more years experience than Anae as an OC

Stoops knows what he has in TT and although Stoops is a moron I dont blame him for his lack of use in TT. The guy is big but he is not a natural runner. Fumbles and brick hands are just some of his problems. But in the OSU game I dont think anything worst could have happened had he just put the guy in for the punch.

At this point you have to try other things. Tutogi is a load and I think that having him block or run the ball at this point is a nothing to lose situation. I mean it took Litrell 3 quarters in the NAU game to call a slant over the middle pattern. It took Litrell almost 4 quarters to figure out that Keola wasn't working and then to use KaPow. This lack of running game needs to be fixed quickly or Litrell and then Stoops is gone....it is that simple. No more Seth Canales.

Contrary to popular beliefs, Taimi has very soft hands. Last year he dropped 2 passes of which one of them was deflected; and had 1 fumble. Not sure that qualifies as a chronic problem.

My true point was if we do NOT have a running game, we will NOT win against any elite teams...it's a proven fact!! I can understand why the coaches are exploring the best talents on this team and using the passing spread offense, but that lasts for only so long if the run isn't established. The run opens up the pass game, never the other way around!

And to say that the bubble screens, quick slants, etc, etc is an extention of the run game....uuhhhhh NO!! It's an extention of the defense not having to stack the box or keeping them honest. As we all know, or you should know, DB's are always the best athletes on the field. So running the spread offense only brings better athletes into the mix....just my thoughts.

That is actually wrong technically. Scelfo was the interim of Louisiana Tech for 5 days.

Does anyone find it strange that Sonny Dykes takes the Louisiana Tech head coach job and Schelfo comes to Arizona? Weird little exchange.

you have a lot of valid points and I am very surprised that TT only dropped two passes LY. It must have been the way that he dropped those passes that leads to the perception of stone hands. The drops that I remember did not look pretty. Here's to TT being more of a weapon this year.

Over the past three seasons our running game has gone from bad to worse. Stoops absolutely needs to find a way to run the ball consistently. Here are my thoughts:

1. Stop playing catchup! We haven't had a game in recent memory where we had the opportunity to establish a solid running attack because we go down BIG early.

2. Line up more plays with Foles under center. Shot gun hand offs are not working.

3. Antolin simply isn't an every down back. We need more power and vision in our running backs. Enter Carey and Tutogi.

Our lack of a running game is because our o line can't get it done. Its not because of the backs...Ant is a very good back. Period. Is he an all american? No. Is TT a better guy to give it to for a 1 yd gain? Sure, if he doesn't fumble. But the bottom line is there are no holes to run through for anybody.

Hopefully our line will pick it up and improve and we can run much better a month from now when they have a little experience under their belt and the schedule gets softer.

This is why K'Deem needs to be in there. He is a better back than Antolin and can create some of his own.
