We know Casteel is not a recruiter so how would you rank the staff as it relates to best recruiter(s)?

Coach K will be your Dline man. Hes a super quality guy. Very old school, he will not hesitate to use colorful language on the practice field. I hated to lose him as hes been a WVU instittion for decades. He will coach up alot of guys and might offend one or two. Hes an average to slightly above average recruiter but not sure how his PA cntacts will translate to getting kids out west.

Locksley is amazing, A huge get for you guys, I can say many WVU fans wanted him to stay no matter what Casteel did. He Did wonders for our DBS and count yourselfs lucky if he and Not Gibson is DB coaching.

so hard to tell sine none have major West Coast contacts. Locksley is great at recruiting the modernd day high school kid. We wised he stayed. Coach K may struggle to recruit the Dline out West but he will coach up anyone you get that has the balls to hang in.

Casteel is a bend dont break guy. Some love it some hate it. Even in his best years at WVU people complained but overall hes a hell of a coach

IMO the variable for you guys is how much Pat White and Steve Slaton made RR succeed. No one knows quite yet. His record pre those two was above average but not amazing and with them e had amazing success.

If I was a fan my number one concern would be having so many East Coast guys with virtually no West Coast contacts. Im not sure how the staff will shake out for yall but if it was me I would want atleast two guys on staff that are proven West Coast recruiters. You likely ill grab one here and there from the East but trying to count on the old contacts as a recruiting base would be crazy.

Good recruiters can recruit anywhere (see Arizona's basketball coaches that came from Xavier). The problem is it takes a little time to get familiar with the High Schools on the west coast. That being said - there are plenty of power house schools that everybody goes to and Arizona has several former players coaching at Cali High Schools that will also help.

It also helps to have name recognition and RR has that which will help. Again - it might not make a difference Ty but it will down the road.

absolutely. I agree. I just meant as u said it might take a bit to cement new contacts. Locks I wouldnt worry about he will be pulling in kids asap. Casteel and Coach K might not settle into recruiting as quickly

The guy is a coach for 30-something years at WVU and these are your parting words for him? Picking up and leaving to move a few thousand miles to the southwest is disruptive to him and his family, and a substantial statement. You are putting it all on him? Really? After +30 years?! Dude, I bet you weren't even alive when he started coaching at WVU.

If that is truly what happened, that he made public comments to undermine the coach, then yea that's a huge red flag. Perhaps he had become institutionalized a bit there and was resisting change? But then again, that's a hard pill to swallow since now he's changing the **** out of his life and coming to the desert.

If you are talking about he said/she said type rumors behind the scenes then wouldn't put too much into that. Dude is vocal, we all know that. Those kinds of people tend to say what is on their mind perhaps a bit too much. In the end, if that is the case, that perhaps someone's cousin overheard a conversation in the hallway between coaches, or whatever, then no biggie.

Either way, he gets a clean slate when he comes down here. He has earned it.

That's a good question. You would think that for any 3 man front to be successful against the run size at DT would be more important than athleticism. Doesn't seem like Castell agrees and his D's were pretty good against the run. Maybe it's a recruiting issue though?
