You're probably right, not the first time I've heard that.
Was this game a local broadcast only? Couldn't find it in Tucson.

Hell of a game by Gordon the crowd dwarfed anything at McKale in the last few years.

CBS usually does split-national games on Saturdays ... last I checked Tucson was a Pac-12 market, not a MWC market, and UCLA-St John's is solid on paper, if not on the court this season ... what they should do is offer the other game on CBSSports Network ...
the crowd dwarfed anything at McKale in the last few years.
Bullsh*t.
I think you say inflammatory BS on this board just to say it ... as if that makes you somehow more objective ... when's the last time you were at McKale?

Last year.....
Year before last every game.
Funny everyone else is calling out the student section and talking about how the crowd just isn't as into it as they used to be. Your obsessive hatred is misplaced. They don't consider us a rival.

Well there arena might hold more but that is the only way they are better. We have sold out a few this year and I would put last years white out against any in the country..

You clearly have selective memory, UA's last two White-Outs were fantastic, as loud as McKale's been, and several other games in Miller's tenure (Oregon St this year and UCLA, Cal, Stanford & Oregon last year off the top of my head) have had enthusiastic and raucous crowds.
Everyone else is calling out the crowd? Who is everyone? Exaggerate much? You do exaggerate by using phrases "dwarfed anything at McKale" when it's not true.
Obsessive hatred with whom? New Mexico? I don't consider them UA's rival either, but my experience with New Mexico Basketball informs my view of them, which is not misplaced. F*ck the Lobos. You don't have to like it.

I have gone to nearly ever home game at McKale for almost 20 years.
It is a great crowd, and they have been really solid this year. Coach Miller recognizes this, and in fact compliments our crowd after nearly every close win.

Maybe read Zona Zoo or a couple of those threads?
If you don't care about em why post on a thread about them?
I like all basketball and watch as many as 6 games or more each day they're on, was expecting a better game from UNLV and the crowd was insanely loud for this game.
It wasn't on in Tucson so how does anyone know what the noise level was.
The 1-4 record we have against them doesn't speak volumes as to a rivalry....

Zona Zoo complaints =! overall crowd complaints, and the Zona Zoo complaints don't happen every home game. Never mind the fact that message board posters =! "everyone"
I watch a lot of basketball too. I like watching htis year's UNLV team form a neutral perspective, which is why I read this thread in the first place. Never have liked New Mexico Basketball or their bought referees or their fans, the least justified, over-entitled and obnoxiously provincial fanbase in all of college basketball, for a team that's NEVER made a Sweet 16, much less a Final Four.
I guess you forgot UA used to play NM a lot in the WAC and Border conference for the Kit Carson Rifle, and that UA is 83-42 all time vs. New Mexico (which actually speaks volumes as to a "rivalry"), including 5-5 from 1984-2000 under Lute.
I didn't see the UNM-UNLV game, but that doesn't mean your statement "the crowd dwarfed anything at McKale in the last few years" is accurate or not a complete exaggeration.

How sad that some people have resorted to quoting ancient history. Maybe when Lute was there in his prime I left McKale ears ringing but not for the last 4 years or so.
No the complaints were about the 'blue hairs' initially. Since we're on THIS message board that's my point of reference. I'm sure people off this board couldn't care less and most think Arizona used to be a perenial powerhouse (who also got ousted in quite a few first round games and that's more well remembered than a 15 year old NC) that's what I've heard back East etc anyway.
The CBS crew, ESPN are all going on and on about the atmosphere of the game and the performance but what do they know, they just watched it/were there.
Funny I think you were the one who told me in a PM that you don't care about basketball other than the Cats and don't really watch other games....
Next you'll be telling me we are better than Allen, Yum, Rupp and Cameron.......

I've always thought that the McKale environment on game day was better overall than the PIT's....
However, when the PIT is roaring, it's louder than McKale ever was - absolutely painful if you're near the floor....

Ancient History? UA & UNM haven't played each other since 2000, so "recent" history was never my point, since my feelings long pre-date the last 12 years. Immediacy isn't a pre-requisite for an opinion, a belief or an observation.
There's more red herrings, straw men and poor generalizations in the your posts here than I can count, not the least of which was the content of my PMs, I watch a lot of basketball that doesn't involve UA, always have. Announcers always praise a good crowd, big whoop, doesn't mean UA hasn't had great crowds recently too.
Bottom line, I don't have to justify to you my feelings on UNM Basketball, even though it clearly bothers you - I do remember you have family that attended UNM - but I can accede your experiences and views are different than mine.

Strange, it must bother you if you feel the need to come on a thread to disparage it....
Your PMs? Want to know what you said verbatim?
My reference to ancient history is what teams and fans say about the FF's, NC etc. Didn't Sean say he wanted to come here to restore the storied program?

Maybe, I've heard that from others, but my ears have been in pain at McKale too. Both UA-Duke games. Several UCLA and Stanford games. UA-Michigan in 1994. So many times I thought the roof was going to come off. Friends and family have told me UA's last two white-outs vs. UW were as loud. I'm not doubting The Pit was loud, they're historically and notoriously loud when things get going, but not so much so that their respective ceilings are so far apart as some here suggest.

There you go again assuming and making fallcious appeals to my motives.
I do know every time I say "F*ck the Lobos" it sends you into a self-righteous tizzy.
I've read the PMs between us. I never said I don't care about basketball other than UA - I'm not just a UA Basketball fan, I'm a college basketball fan -but I admit I am a UA fan first.
Your initial reference to history was couched in a conversation comparing UA to UNM. Now you claim to clarify (benefit of the doubt) the intent of your reference afterwards, but if that is the case, UA was a missed 3 away from a Final Four last year, so history isn't so ancient afterall in that regard.
We can continue to argue if you want, but I'd rather just move on.

The PIT hit 114 decibels today (local news report)...
Loudest I ever heard @ McKale was first conference game vs. UCLA - Freddy the Fox beat #2 ranked, David Greenwood-led uclans...
... Louder than any of about 50 games I attended during Lute's tenure in the '80's....

The crowd at Mckale is something to be proud of, we have some of if not the best fans in the country but the Pit is recognized by those who know CBB as certainly one of the top 5 maybe top 3 toughest places to play, that place is absolutely insane. But I sort of agree with Rey, they do have a history of the refs being in their back pocket and of course those loses by Lute's teams there over the years were painful enough that NM basketball will always leave a very bad taste in my mouth. That doesnt mean they should be overlooked though, Alford is a solid coach and he is doing good things there and I am sure he will continue to.
In my visits to Loboland I have found Lobo fans to be very much like Cat fans, they really love that team and like Tucson it is pretty much the only game in town that matters, they are really not that much different than us.

2002 (or 2003?) send half comeback vs. UCLA was among the loudest games I attended at McKale - I remember jumping up and down like crazy with my hands over my ears because it was so loud, felt afterwards like I had been at a Motley Crue concert next to the speaker, ears rang the rest of the day ...

Apparently he injured his shoulder in December and has had a tough time coming back from it. Doesn't look good for the rest of the season, and caps their ceiling at Sweet 16 IMO going forward. If Moser can somehow get right before the NCAAs, then UNLV could become the darkhorse Final Four contender I pegged them as before the season, but time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking ...
Meanwhile, fun thread. F*** the Lobos.
