I don't say this as a Dodger fan but as a fan of the NL and specifically of the NL West this year. The Pads, Giants, and Dodgers are all playing well above their heads and no one east of Denver even sees it, let alone report it on the national news.

I can understand the fact the the NL West got no respect at the beginning of the year due to the parity and the fact that no team made a significant upgrade but give me a break! What division is the only division in MLB that has 3 teams 10 games over .500 before tonight? NL West. What division in the NL has both the division leader and wild card leader in it? NL West. Which division has the most All-Star snubs? NL West. Which division gets all the friggin' coverage but has possibly the worst division race in MLB? AL East. So we get to see 30 minutes on the stupid a$$ fight between the Spankees and Red Chokes but 25 seconds on the Dodgers/Padres game and maybe 35 seconds on the Giants/Cards game. The NL West along with the Rangers and the overall parity in baseball is THE story in baseball, not the friggin' spending war between the Spankees and Red Sox. My God, the Sox aren't even 10 games over .500! Meanwhile, the Giants continue to win with a lineup that should have trouble beating the Bad News Bears but beats the Cards in their home park two games in a row. The Padres have perhaps the most balanced team in the NL, especially if their hitters get hot and the Dodgers are playing more like the Giants of 2000-2003, winning with less. Peter Gammons and the rest of the slack jawed yokels need to wake up and see that the West could very well represent both leagues in this years World Series while the Spankees and Red Sox watch it all on TV. OK, rant over.

This is how I feel about the Rangers. No Respect.

No one talks about the good in the NL west, only the bad.

I swear the embarrasment that is the Arizona Diamondbacks has gotten more pub then the Padres, Dodgers and Giants combined.

All of the stuff you mentioned wosn is great but the only way the country will give respect to the NL west that it deserves is postseason performance. Hopefully the Giants and either the Dodgers or Padres can make the playoffs and do some damage.

S.O.

I agree with everything you said, except the part about the Pads playing over their head. Nobody on that team with the exception of Peavy, and that's because he's still young, is having a career year. They're doing exactly what they were built to do, and that's compete.

You are right I never see Bonds or Gagne ever talked about on ESPN.

It is called supply and demand. I think the Dodgers will be in the series if the keep the pen healthy and fresh. That does not change the fact the Sox and Yankees have the a large number of transplant fans all over the country. Plus that series this weekend had a little more going on with it then most normal ones. One legit point to bring up is all of ESPN writers for Baseball are East Coast guys except for Pedro Gomez and he is awful. They need a good west coast guy to go with Gammons, Stark, Kurk and Olney.

PS Sox are ten over 500 now.

I agree that the Pads are built to compete but since no one was a consensus pick to win the west, all teams have performed above expectations so far this year. The Pads kind of surprised me, not with their offense but with their stellar pitching. I expected the offense to carry the club, kin of the way I expected the Dodgers pitching to carry them. Oh, well...

Uh, I don't think you got the gist of the post. My rant was about how the NL West as a whole is getting no repsect. "Experts" still refer to the NL West as a weak division even though 3 teams are 10 games over .500. BTW, when I wrote this, the Red Chokes were only 9 over .500. What pisses me off most is that ESPN spends way too much time on insignificant crap, especially as it pertains to east coast teams. (See the Red Sox/Yankees melee this past weekend. Please don't tell me that 10 minutes on the history of brawls between the two teams is more important than the evenings scores.

No I did get your point. I write this after watching Outside the Lines spent the whole show on why people don't like Bonds. Now there some insignificant stuff about the NL West for you.

I was more interested in the Yanks Sox series then the pads dodgers this weekend. Sorry, but those two teams are fun to watch play each other. The Padres and Dodgers are just another 3 game series.

I'm glad ESPN made it the sunday night game.

That's because of all the east coast biased brainwashing you've been receiving over the years.:D

not really, the games were just more interesting. There was the fight with A-Rod and Varitek as well as a walk off hr and the history from the fight in the ALCS. They don't like each other and it is fun to watch.

Perhaps it's because the Red Sox and Yankees have more history than the Dodgers (in their current incarnation as lords of La La Land) and Padres combined. It's not like San Diego and LA have this historic rivalry that goes back to the beginning of the last century, so sorry kids, but a Yankees/Red Sox brawl is more important than some game in July between two teams who don't have much of a history and didn't have anything exciting happen in that one game out of 162. Get over it.

Its all about ratings. The Sox and Yanks dominate local TV in the Northeast on a level that nobody else does. ESPN is simply tapping into that market. Kind of like the 3 week Laker coverage we had to watch.

exactly Stew. LA gets all the coverage when the Lakers are good, or falling apart because they are the Yanks of the NBA. I would rather watch a Angel game against another good team, but other then that it doesn't get more passionate then Soxs Yanks. It is like watching a rivalry football game.

Actually I was in SD this weekend and there did not seem to be that much interest. Granted I am from Boston orignally but I was expecting more. Does anybody know if FOX and MLB will get together and work out these blackout issues. I could not even watch the game Saturday and ESPN radio in SD took it off when it ran long in the 7th or 8th inning.
