I am in a dilemma considering a trade in a fantasy football league and would like your opinions to help me out. We start 2 RBs, and the scoring is pretty standard 6 pts for TD, 3 pts for 100 yds rushing with an extra point every 25 yds, and 3 pts for 50 yds receiving with an extra point every 25 yds.
I have Clinton Portis and Kevan Barlow. I also have Willis McGahee but that is mainly for his keeper value as I don't expect him to contribute much this year. The problem is Portis and Barlow have the same bye week (Wk 7). Another owner has Priest Holmes and Rudi Johnson, both with Wk 5 byes. He proposed we trade Barlow for Johnson.
I like both Barlow and Johnson, but have some concerns about each. With Barlow, SF's lack of a passing game is a concern. However, SF has no other option at RB so Barlow is a safe bet to get a lot of carries. He also is a better receiver than Johnson and had a better yards-per-carry last year. On the other hand, Rudi had some huge games down the stretch last year and demonstrated his ability to be a work-horse with that 43 carry game. The offense in Cinci is better than SF as a whole, so he will probably have more red zone opportunities, even with Palmer at QB (although if he struggles, Kitna could always replace him). On the downside, I am a bit concerned with the presence of Chris Perry, who will likely be in on passing downs at a minimum.
What you accept the trade? It makes sense with the bye weeks, but, although it may be unconventional, I've talked myself into being alright with starting my 1 and 2 RBs 12 of 13 weeks and playing McGahee and probably like a goal line back (Zack Crockett, Moe Williams, etc- there really aren't many other RBs available in the auction/draft this weekend) during Week 7 and hoping for the best. Barlow and Johnson seem pretty comparable, but I don't want to make the wrong move and be stuck with a guy who doesn't match the success he had in the few games he had last year while the other goes off.
