View Full Version : Lakers/Celtics trade amended

Lakers now don't get Marcus Banks. Instead, they get Jumain Jones and his 2.2 ppg. Boston also keeps their 2nd round pick.
The trade just went from a potentially good one for the Lakers to pure junk.

That link didn't work, but my understanding was that the agreement was amended since Payton refuses to play for the Celtics and did not show up for his physical. Ainge said he doesn't care if he shows up or not, as they can save the $5.4M. Payton says he doesn't care about the money, only about respect, and the Lakers have not shown him any.

Wonder why hey removed the story?
>>>The trade on Aug. 6 that sent Marcus Banks, Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins and a second-round draft choice for Payton, Rick Fox, a conditional first-round draft choice and cash had to be reworked when Payton failed to show for a physical in Boston by August 13.
Los Angeles, which faced the threat of having Boston void the trade, sent Banks and the second-round pick back to Boston for reserve forward Jumaine Jones.
Ainge said he spoke with Banks, the Celtics first-round pick in 2003, over the weekend and cleared the air after reports that Banks was upset about the trade.
``We never wanted to move Marcus, so we're excited to get him back,'' Ainge said. ``He never wanted to leave. He's excited to be back. There were just a couple days there where they were just kind of freaking out.'' <<<
