The NBA has yet to announce any punishment of Wolves guard Latrell Sprewell over his foul mouth.

Sprewell responded to a female heckler, during the Wolves overtime win Saturday against the Clippers, by yelling at her graphically to perform a sexual act. BenMaller.com first reported this story yesterday.

Sprewell's crude choice of language was picked up by the court-side mic and broadcast live on the Clippers KTLA Los Angeles TV broadcast.

Earlier this season Sprewell upset NBA boss David Stern when he demanded a new contract because he was worried about feeding his family despite making a reported $14,625,000 this season.

The NBA has fined and suspended players in the past for cursing on TV but those incidents happened during postgame interviews. Shaquille O'Neal for example used two profanities while criticizing the referees in a postgame interview back in February of 2004. O'Neal later apologized but was suspended without pay for one game.

And not NBA related, but George Carlin responded similarily to a heckler:

December 7, 2004 -- GEORGE Carlin ended his relationship with the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with a devastating diss the other night. The caustic comic finished his four-year run with a dark set that included riffs on suicides and beheadings, and made it clear that he couldn't wait to get out of "this [bleeping] hotel" and Sin City. The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Norm Clarke reports that Carlin told the crowd of 700 that he was looking forward to going back east "where the real people are." He added, "People who go to Las Vegas, you've got to question their [bleeping] intellect . . . Traveling hundreds and thousands of miles to essentially give your money to a large corporation is kind of [bleeping] moronic. That's what I'm always getting here is these kind of [bleeping] people with very limited intellects." When a woman yelled something that sounded like "stop degrading us," Carlin fired back, "Thank you very much, whatever that was. I hope it was positive; if not, well, [bleep] me," using slang for oral sex. Strangely, though, Carlin isn't ready to leave town yet: He's jumping to the Stardust in February after a falling out with the MGM Grand.

Sprewell ever the class act. Wonder why he's not suspended and fined for this. The fans are rude but they buy the tickets that pay the players huge bucks.. Latrell's lucky to be playing at all due to his stellar behavior in the past.

I doubt Sprewell was actually propositioning her...

And I don't necessarily think a fan has the right to say anything they want simply because they paid for the ticket, but I have a feeling the exchange went something like this:

Ladie: "Hey Sprewell, I've sent some money over to help feed your starving children"
Spree: "Suck my dick, *****"
Ladie: "Thanks Sprewell, Now you'll help feed my children" :wink2:

Yep, but I was on the lookout for anyone wearing a $50,000 pinkie ring or a prison jumpsuit. You have to be careful these days. NBA players could be lurking behind every corner just waiting to beat the living crap out of you and then claim racism.

Knowing Latrell, I was honestly expecting as that article went on for him to say that she called him a ni--er or something. I hate that shiit because when it really does happen, no one believes you. Like in the Detroit situation, didn't Ron Artest claim that someone said something racial to him? I don't buy it for a freakin' second. People have enough to hate these guys for outside of the color of their skin, why would they need to bring up race?

Perhaps the lady was of the same race...
If so, it prolly wouldn't have had the desired effect.

Sprewell is suspended without pay for one game for the remark...

He'll lose approximately $200,000 for the quote, "Suck my dick"...

I guess that means no dessert for his kids tonight :(

Chump change for a real a...hole.. I'm sure there's a lawyer there that can get some bucks for her. He ought to be on a short leash...this stuff does nothing to improve the image of the nba..

Oh man I am dying of laughter!

"But unless I get tens of millions in contract extensions I can't feed my family!"

Players like Sprewell don't care about the NBA or its image, only there own...and sometimes, they don't even care about that...it's all about the hos and who's got the most money, bling and the most pimped out ride...Sprewell is up at the top...

One funny note, I fugured out what Sprewell meant when he said that he got to feed his kids...his cars are his babies...;) so he's got to give them the best, right?

I'm going to shoot S.A. Smith.

He's on ESPNews, DEFENDING Spreewell. Sayin he's going thru a tough time this year because of the heckling from the fans. Blamed it all on the fans. Wow.

Dont like being heckled? Fine, dont say stupid shyte Latrell. I've had enough of that racist bastard. Send him back to Fox, I really miss Aldridge right now.

A) Steven A. Smith loves the sound of his own voice. But in reality, he's a retard.

B) Smith doesn't have any contacts within the NBA and the only way he can get players to talk to him is to pimp them on live television. I don't know that it is racism per se, but he only speaks highly of the stars in this league (the majority of whom are black), and he only dogs the journeymen, unathletics, and one-and-dones (some of whom are white). You will never ever hear him say something bad about anyone he might need to do an interview with some day.

Well it seems that he just talks a lot of smack on us "whities".

He blames the fans, FOR EVERYTHING. The players can do no wrong in his eyes, even when they GO INTO THE STANDS.

He knocks on white stiffs all day long.......Rasho Nesterovic (just imagine him pronouncing it). I'm just tired of it, ESPN does not need it.

I just miss the class that Aldridge brought. Whatever happened to having class.

I totally agree Zona, but I just don't see it as racism. I've heard him say enough things about Olowokandi to convince me of that. Maybe he just hates on foreigners? ;)

I also long for the days when Aldridge brought a sense of class and decorum to reporting on the sport. But then again, this is the NBA we are talking about, and class, decorum, and professional basketball seem to be mutually exclusive entities . . .

Fans are not the problem here.. They pay the ticket price and want to see their teams play well.. Security can deal with over zealous fans. Sprewell's damn lucky to have a million dollar lottery job, otherwise he'd be facing criminal charges based on his past behavior. Spoiled rich kids need a dose of reality working for Taco Bell to understand how lucky they are..

Here's another great NBA/Clippers article from Bill Simmons, with a first-person perspective on the Sprewell incident, among other things:

I don't think Stephen A. Smith is racist, just mildly retarded. Seriously, I never cared for Aldrige that much, but he looks likea genius when compared to Smith. I don't know why they hired him at all. Eveytime I see him on tv talking, I know I'm dumber for watching/listening to him. At least everyone knows Bill Walton is isane, what's Smith's excuse?

JMarkJohns

ESPN, seeing that controversy ruled the NBA, fired always consistant, always informed Aldridge for a controversial, outspoken buffoon in Smith. They did it for quote/unquote, shock value...figuring the general public to be stupid enough to tune in, just to hear what the schmuck says...I guess it's working.

They wanted a Barkley-type, one that could insight emotion with any given word...they succeeded. Unfortunately for most, the emotion of rage doesn't seem enough to keep them from tuning in to him...

Anthony - GOOD
Legler - Ehh
Smith - not fit for the message board...

If they brought in Elliot in place of Smith, they'd be great. oh well....
