No progress made in NHL talks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylc=X3oDMTBpNWZic251BF9TAzI1NjY0ODI1BHNlYwN0 aA--?slug=ap-nhllockout&prov=ap&type=lgns)

6.5 million difference on a salary cap. 49 players to 42.5 owners.
Should they meet in the middle ?

The key here is that all the other leagues are watching this. If the NHL owners stay firm in their resolve then it may empower other sport owners to change how they negotiate with their unions.

To solve the NHL problem. They need a hard cap high and a hard cap low. Teams can spend up to 45 million but must spend at least 35 million. That way players don't have to settle for super low pay as the cheap teams and/or under funded teams have to spend 77% of the maximum. All revenue must be shared so when revenues go up the cap both high and low does also.

Remember this sport have no big TV contracts so if they don't work it out well goodbye NHL.
