This Week

Arizona will play its second straight conference road series when it heads out of town to Washington State ... The Cougars (16-17, 0-6 Pac-10) snapped a seven-game losing streak after besting Gonzaga in a mid-week non-conference game in Spokane ... UA and WSU have met 26 times previous to this weekend’s match up with the Wildcats owning a 17-9 advantage ... Arizona took the Pac-10 series between the two schools last season two games to one ... All three games this weekend can be heard live on the radio on 1290 AM The Source

The Arizona Offense

The Wildcats enter the week of play with a Pac-10-best .337 batting average ... Arizona is averaging 8.8 run and 12 hits per game this season ... Entering play this weekend, the Wildcats lead the Pac-10 in average, slugging (.527), on base percentage (.422), runs (273), RBI (243), doubles (82), triples (19), total bases (599) and walks (151). Arizona’s ranking and the Pac-10 leaders can be found on Page 5 of the notes.

Free Ride

Heading into the week of play, Arizona leads the Pac-10 with 130 walks. That alone is noteworthy, but it becomes even more impressive when you toss in that UA, which also leads the conference with a .527 slugging percentage, has walked nearly as much as it has struck out (151 BB to 168 K) and that 53 of the 151 free passes (35 percent) have come around to score this season. Individually, Arizona has five different players in the lineup that have walked more times than they have struck out this season.

Two Outs? Rally’s On!

Led by a season-high 10 two-out runs against Fullerton on March 20, Arizona has scored 110 runs this season after the first two outs in an inning have been recorded (40 percent of UA’s 242 runs this year). As a team, Arizona is batting .351 as a team with two outs and has recorded 92 two-out RBI. Individually, junior Jordan Brown leads the two-out RBI parade with 21 runs driven in with a pair down. Brown is batting .434 (23 for 53) and has hit four of his team-leading nine HRs with two outs so far this season.

The Pitching Numbers

Arizona enters play this weekend with a 4.36 team ERA and a Pac-10-best 324 strikeouts in 282 2/3 innings pitched. Arizona will start junior RHP John Meloan (5-0, 3.78 ERA, 68 K, 50 IP) on Friday, junior RHP Kevin Guyette (5-2, 3.41 ERA, 78 K, 60 2/3 IP) on Saturday and David Coulon (2-1, 5.83 ERA, 32 K, 29 1/3 IP) on Sunday.

They shouldn't have any trouble with WSU this weekend. Here's to hoping for a sweep..
