Today I finally got a set of the Slingshots. I hit them March of 2004 at the Practice Tee demo show. I like them but not for $700.

So I've been waiting for the price to come down. It went down this season to $599 for new. NO WAY.

As luck would have it a friend of mine in passing mentioned that his friend who owns a golf store here has a used set in great shape for $300. They were a free Vans trade to a friend of the Golf shop owner. He let the customer sell them with no consignment.

I remember Ben mentioned that Storey had a set and liked them. Anyone else played them or own them ?

Don't know anything about them, but beware of used clubs, many are very good copies from China.

Thanks for the warning but they did come from Vans, a major retail shop.

The guy got them comped b/c he repaired the putting green turf in their store. I know the golf shop owner for many years. I trust him.

Hit them a few times, they were pretty good, tho I like my RAC LT's better, which is prolly why I bought them, considering the price was about the same as the slingshots last year. I havent hit the slingshots enough to get a real good feel for them, but they felt fairly forgiving, couldnt get a feel for workability in the few shots I hit. Lemme know how they treat you. I need to find a new driver this season, mine is trash.

budd1e_lee I play with Taylor 200 irons. I like them alot.
I would like them to be my tempting backup set. :)

Drivers well that's a tough pick for anyone. I have a Titlist D 7.5. But it has taken for a long time to settle on one.

Pet peeve : I hate going to courses where the fairways are lined with houses and I have to play a 15 degree 3 wood or 3 iron off the tee to maintain a good score. So many people have a $300 and up driver that is rarely played on those type of courses. Give me a nice public links and let me bomb off the tee.

I feel that stupid houses, though those tend to be spectacular courses, Id much rather be able to lose the ball one way or another and not risk killing somebody or breaking a window. Are there any good club shops around Tucson, I wanna hit the Callaway 454 with some different shafts and the Ping G2. Ive hit a few of the others, Im also interested to see if anything new is coming out in the near future, I havent kept up much since last summer. I hear good things about the Ignite 460 as well, but only with an upgrade in the shaft, which is also true for the 454. I need to get out soon and hit some of these clubs, I just got a $500 tax return...

My titlist D is a regular graffaloy red shaft. With the long hosel it is really a firm/stiff shaft.

The extra stiff might not be so stiff depending on the length of the hosel.

I still wouldn't swing it.

ps At that demo day last year I really liked the Ignite 410cc - 9.5 degree regular shaft driver. It was a little wimpy but it really squared up at impact for me. ?? But too costly ($399) at the time.

I hear the 460 is better than the 410, much much more forgiving. I cant get bast the gigantor heads tho. My current is a 360 I think.

I can't handle these large heads. It's like having a shoe on the end of a stick.

My Titlist is a 275cc. I have a Nike clone which is a 350cc and thats about as large as I like it.

I cant stand to look at it at address, but they hit very very well, Im very close to giving in. I might as well kick the damn ball with how big those things are.

Class of 1990 - I do have a set of Nike Slingshots... and I think they are pretty decent. However if I had to purchase them I probably would not (Luckily I received them for free for doing a deal with Nike) and would purchase either some Pings or Taylor Mades instead.

I am not a fan of the sound that the club makes when swinging through and don't feel that they have "good feel" to them.

I purchased a Taylor Made R5 Driver and I can say that is an awesome club. Also, I bought some Cleveland wedges that I am still trying to get the feel of but they are nice clubs too.

I actually am interested in getting rid of my Slingshots if anyone is interested. They are pretty much standard except they are stiff shafts. I have had them about six or seven months and they have been played probably 35 times.

Let me know if you are interested.

Lucky Bastard!

I've got Ping's and I've only been able to play twice in the last six months - both times on vacation, with rental clubs.

I went to the Practice Tee on Sunday. First time I have hit clubs honestly since early Feb.

I had read online about the "Whistle" the Nike is suppose to have. Never heard one. I have a slow swing that explodes on the end of the back swing.

Granted the lofts are about 2 degrees higher then standard clubs. I had no pulls. No shanks. A slight slice on some hits but I don't normally slice so I would consider it a lack of timing.

When hitting well, I have a high hit so these clubs fall into that catagory. My distances seemed like my Taylor 200 probably a little longer. For my first time hitting them, I am pretty happy. I must still go to the range at least 2 - 3 more times before I take them on the course.

To me these are the kind of clubs mid and high handi players would like. They will get the ball out there even on miss hits. Since my playing rounds have really dropped in the last 6 months these should be better then my Taylors right now.

If anyone is looking for a great starter set you should contact JS. The stiffs could be reshafted ? If you are a young guy with a big swing the stiffs should be OK.

I'm actually looking for starter clubs. I used to go to the range a lot, probably played about 15 rounds in my life, shooting around the century. I want to start playing a lot more this summer. Anyone got any suggested sets?

Depends how long you want to play on the starter set, and if you have any preconcieved notions as to what clubs should look like. The newer high handicap irons are impossible for me to look at, I started playing with a set of true blades so I cant go to anything that doesnt have a thin top line and stay relatively thin throughout the face.

LK...IMO there is no such thing as a starter set of clubs unless you are 10 & under...

There are so many quality clubs on the market that you should start with a good set and learn with those Vs. a cheap set of starter clubs that you will end up tossing in a few months anyway...

Go to Roger Dunn Superstore in Santa Ana (one of the best Golf stores in the country) have them do a complete swing evaluation (hand size...grip size / swing speed / length of clubs...flat...standard...upright / etc...

If you are going to seriously take up the game...you need the right equipment...when you get the golf bug you'll be upgrading your clubs every month anyway...so just invest now in the right set...

Good luck...hit em straight...

Taylor...How do you like the Pings? A good friend of mine is the Ping Rep for the state of VA...

I'm actually moving to Houston in 2 weeks (after 8 days in Paris) so I don't think I'm going to be able to make it down to Santa Ana.
When I'm home, I play with my dad's Ping Zings and a Big Bertha driver. Old clubs, but seem pretty nice.

HA HA the Nikes' are MADE in China. The shafts (true temper are USA) the rest from China.

What worried me about these clubs was no ID number. Then I went to sports Authority saw the same clubs for $599 and they had no ID either.

My Taylor Mades do. You can register online.
