TUCSON, Ariz. – All nine Arizona starters finished with at least one hit and John Meloan and Brad Mills teamed up to toss UA’s sixth shut out of the season as the No. 11-ranked Wildcat baseball team opened their three-game series against Utah Valley State with a 16-0 win at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium on Friday.

The victory improved Arizona to 30-15 overall for the year while Utah Valley State saw its two-game winning streak end with the defeat and its record fall to 16-34 for the year.

Trevor Crowe, Nick Hundley and Jeff Van Houten had three hits each as the Wildcats rapped out 17 in the game, including four doubles, three triples and two home runs.

Crowe finished 3 for 5 with two triples, a double, a pair of RBI and three runs scored.

Hundley tied classmate Jordan Brown for the team home run lead with his 11th of the year as part of a 3 for 5, three-RBI night at the plate. Van Houten, who also went 3 for 5 in the game, clubbed his fifth homer of the season in the sixth inning and tied Hundley with a game-high three RBI and three runs scored.

On the mound, Meloan (8-1) dominated the Wolverines, scattering five hits over eight innings while striking out 11 and walking only one. Mills closed out the win with a hitless inning in the ninth.

Crowe and Brad Boyer opened the game with back-to-back triples in the bottom of the first and Van Houten added a run-scoring single in the inning, as the Wildcats opened an early 2-0 lead off of UVSC starter Kyle Tash (2-7).

UA tacked on a single run in the fourth, six in the fifth, two in the sixth and five more in the eighth to win by double digit runs for the 11th time this season.
