POCATELLO - Second-team All-Big Sky punter Kyle McQuown left the Idaho State football team this week, and is apparently headed back to his home state of Arizona.
...
McQuown's departure had been a source of speculation during spring practices, but he apparently did not make a final decision until this week. Both the University of Arizona - which is in his hometown of Tucson, where he prepped at Salpointe Catholic High School - and Arizona State University are rumored to be possible destinations.
The situation at Arizona would appear perfect for McQuown, as the Wildcats' current punter, Danny Baugher, is a senior. McQuown has not used his redshirt season yet, so he would be left with two years of eligibility after Baugher graduates.

Don't forget about transfer students/players. Sometimes things just don't work out at one University and a top player may decide to take his talent elsewhere. They may have to sit out for a year but at least they get a chance to showcase their talents at Arizona. The coaches are not going to reveal what is up until a player actually transfers. Its a real touchy subject as a coach does not want to be accused of poaching.

Yes he will be coming to Arizona.Maybe Mike let brother Bob sign that other punter from Phoenix so he would have room for the "real" talent at Arizona. Kind of trick I would play on my brother.

Football: Punter to roll dice with Wildcats
JOHN MOREDICH
Tucson Citizen
Punter Kyle McQuown had a starting position wrapped up at Idaho State, but he felt the gamble to transfer to the University of Arizona was a safe venture.
The Big Sky second-team all-conference player and Salpointe Catholic High School grad will start practicing with the Wildcats in the fall as a walk-on with hope of a scholarship if he earns the starting position.
"It is somewhat of a gamble for me, but I talked it over with my family, and I'm here with them now and that helps," McQuown said yesterday. "This is something that I had to do to get better. I would really like to be the punter here in 2006."
McQuown, who must redshirt this season, was the only punter on the Idaho State depth chart after averaging 43 yards per punt in 2004.
The Wildcats have senior Danny Baugher punting this season, but the punting chores are up for grabs in 2006. McQuown hopes for that position with an impressive year of work.
"There is pressure, but I don't mind it," McQuown said. "It is a challenge to me."
The junior, a Tucson Citizen Southern Arizona all-star selection after the 2002 football season, was consistent with the Bengals. He averaged more than 40 yards per punt in 16 of 17 games during one stage, including 14 straight games.
McQuown wanted to play for the Wildcats out of Salpointe, but he was ignored by the John Mackovic staff.
He chose Idaho State because of its coaching situation and immediate playing time. He also considered Nebraska and Oregon State.
After deciding to transfer from Idaho State after the spring following a coaching change involving the kicking game, he sent out stats and a highlight video to UA coach Mike Stoops and his staff.
"When Arizona didn't recruit me (originally), it kind of got me a little upset," McQuown said. "I had always dreamed about playing at UA and playing in front of my hometown. But with what coach Stoops had done here already, I'm excited about the chance I have here."

What a great attitude. Too bad he has to redshirt. Don't know about his hang time and hike to punt time, but his distance is certainly PAC 10 ready.

That is my question, do we know his average hang time??

I too think this has the potential to be a good story...but let's see if he makes the team first before we start asking for average hang time...

Did we ever figure out the story on that WR from Mesa and if he was committing here?

They said he was real but that he went to the military came back and hadnt played football for a few years but a couple of guys on the team know him and that he said he'd commit as soon as he got an offer but it was highly unlikely that he would be receiving one. Bonney also denied claims that he used to porn stars to come up with the name Canyon Skylar.. So lets all call him fat and move on....

Sorry guys I am new to this job and am just learning the ropes of it all and getting my connections. That said I would be able to find out if there was a new commit to the program and the only one I ever heard of was Colin Baxter. The post here was the first I have ever heard of this Mesa CC kid (who doesnt go there or whatever). That said, when someone does commit I will be the first to tell you and as you can see I have worked for about three weeks now and Josh and I are trying to really get football going here. Already this month we have had a ton of football coverage and hopefully will constantly be able to find out all you need to know from the bigtime kids Arizona is looking at.
That said, if someone commits, Josh or I will find out. If it is reported somewhere else first and not here then there is probably a reason we arent writing anything.

It was a fake recruit. The person doesn't exist so don't believe anything you hear about him and his past.

Is there anyone that looks good at Mesa CC, Scottsdale CC, or Pima CC that might transfer to Arizona?
I remember that last year Arizona was able to snag Brad Wood around this time last year and anothet WR from Pima CC.

Last year Arizona was trying to fill their class and felt the need for any immediate help they could get and so they got Brad Wood and Aaron Butler. This year we are completely finished with the class and no one should be added. The coaches have scouted all the Arizona CCs well and they would have tendered a scholarship offer awhile ago had they been interested.
Next year there looks to be some prospects from Arizona CCs although none bigger than Louis Holmes. We will see what Arizona JUCO kids start getting heavy looks in a few months, but as of now the coaches are just scouting kids.

That kind of sounds like a cop-out to be honest.Bonney did a good job when he was here. Josh is better, yes, but we don't know anything about you yet, Ryan, except that another site has news of a commit and you then saying if someone else breaks a story before you it's a lie.
I'll wait for Josh's official word below.

Hey now... c'mon bro. You're putting words in his mouth. I didn't take it that way at all.Just that if we don't have it - with our sources - you'll get an explanation with good reason behind why a story isn't up.

I don't think Ryan is saying that if it's reported elsewhere it's a lie. Regardless, we've had great feedback on Ryan so far and I think he's done a tremendous job.
My official word is that the Skylar recruit was a complete lie. It was an attempt to fool others and unfortunately, some are still fooled.

Were they trying to blow smoke up your asses to see if you would follow their phony story? Pretty sneaky move, good thing you guys didn't bite. The goazcats vs. CT wars are soooo 2002, still pretty funny though.
btw Does the new guy get a bonus from Jim every time he writes "that said?"

Yeah I definitely did not mean that if it is posted somewhere else and not here that it is a lie. All I meant was that if it isnt posted here then there is a reason, meaning that our sources have not told us anything yet. Maybe that clears things up and hopefully I can do "something" in the future. Fantana PM me sometime if you have any questions.
Wilmaspimp, I will say "that said" "incredible" "in reality" and any small and easy to understand words that I can get out without sounding like someone in middleschool constantly. Good catch though. It only took me a few posts.
