Not to belabor this point, but I am feeling like a complete cynic right now - as so many people bought into JM's teary-eyed remarks at his press conference. Not for a moment do I believe that his apology was sincere - I have little doubt in my mind that it was coerced.
Example 1:
You have a boss who is volatile and can be an a-hole. He rips you a new one in front of your peers because of something he believes you did wrong. He goes a little over the top in reprimanding you in front of the group. You are embarassed. The next morning you come into work, and there is a note that the boss wants to see you. You go into his office and he apologizes for erupting. He has felt bad about it since it happened and wanted to offer his apology.
Is he sincere? I think so.
Example 2:
Same scenario, only no note or conversation the next morning. It happens a few times to a few different people, and finally someone alerts HR. Your manager gets his hat handed to him and is put on a work-improvement plan. He is mandated to have a meeting with his employees and publicly apologize. He does, and even shed a few tears.
Is he sincere? I highly doubt it.
