View Full Version : Pima Football: New coach likes view better from upstairs

Pima Community College football coach Mark Hourany has made an unusual move: He's left the sidelines to direct the Aztecs from the press box.
"Every coach has a way of seeing the field different," Hourany said. "I can honestly say I see it best from upstairs."
The first-year coach was on the sideline for the opener against Blinn, Texas. Last week he sat in the grandstands, scouting for the offense with a headset.
"I've seen other head coaches do it and offensive coordinators do it," Hourany said. "Every coach has a way of seeing the field differently."
He switched places with offensive coordinator Jim Yencarelli after the Blinn game, which Pima lost 83-0.
"Mark is actually giving us all the information that we need," Yencarelli said. "He's breaking it down for us. He's staying on top and giving us everything we need from both sides of the ball."
Pima scored four touchdowns in a 55-30 loss to Phoenix College on Saturday at Santa Rita High.
"A lot of times, when you don't have a veteran up there, you don't know if you're getting the right thing or not," Yencarelli said.
Hourany doesn't know whether he'll remain in the press box the entire season.
"It's where I am needed right now," Hourany said. "I have confidence in my coaching staff to be able to handle the sideline."
What do you think about a head coach not being on the sidelines?

Pima must be so proud that their new Head Coach is not only an idiot but a circus as well. The players must be so beaten down by that, he doesnt know the game so he has to go up to the press box? I bet he can really work the officials from up there.

What an assclown, if I played for this jackass I'd spit in his face, then Id go to the AD and tell him he could kiss my ass. Then Id think about where im going to school next

After reading that, AZfootball18, I don't think anyone in that whole school--not even the head coach--except for the poor players themselves give a dogcrap about the Pima football program.
Seriously, that move is straight out of the Bush/Mackovic School of Leadership. It's like there's a concerted effort being made to destroy the team. Any football coach who has a shred of manhood in him gets his @$$ on the sidelines to lead his team.
But Hourany believes that the press box is "where I am needed right now"?! Needed as what, the P.A. announcer?
"I have confidence in my coaching staff to be able to handle the sideline."
That's about as disingenuous a statement of support for a decision by a coach as you ever see in football. Hourany exposed himself right there as an absolute hatchet man for the Pima football program.
Hopefully the players can protect themselves from the absolute sabotage going on down there.

Pima College football went from being a national power to a joke in a hurry. Thanks you Pima Administrators for running off Jeff Scurran. Will the program last past this year? I say the program shut down after next year. Any other guesses?

I say the program shut down after next year. Any other guesses?IMHO The program will be cancelled next Summer(June or July) when students are away. This is the way a weenie like Flores, the University chancelor, would handle it. The Arizona Daily Star gives the program minimal coverage. The person scheduling the games is certifiably stupid (playing at the same time as Arizona).
The Administration of Pima College is run by academicians who think that sports bring down an institutions academic reputation. They do not have the insight and foresight to realize that sports, especially having a football team, can set Pima apart and make it a likely candidate as a four year institution.
Pima turns out many bright and gifted individuals who go on to major D-1 colleges. It's a shame that the administrators at the tip top are not.

Yeah first off, this teams play on rinky dink high school fields, the practice facility they got is great, get something like it manufactured with a seating compacity of a couple thousand and play the games at a good time, usually the morning or mid afternoon on Saturday before Arizona plays... First off lift the banishment of recruiting players outside of southern arizona high schools, cause any southern arizona player worth a damn is usually going to a D3 D2 or NAIA school, I wasnt worth a crap and I was getting letters from D3 and NAIA schools and of course Pima and other crappy JC teams.. Hire a new coach or beg beg beg Scurran to take the job back... Scurran is an absolute ******* and the biggest jerk in Arizona coaching but he gets his players to perform. Who makes the decision to hire chancellors? Get someone who cares about athletics because it does wonders for schools like this, in brings a sense of community. Pima is always well regarded in its diversity, its course selection, of course its locale and I've enjoyed the time I've spent as a student there in the past besides one teacher who gave me an F on an english paper because I agree with the death penalty but thats besides the point.. lol (F) Two wrongs dont make a right... Paper was perfect besides my opinion hahaha... but honestly its a shame they are gonna have to cancel football after this embarassment..

My immediate future prediction is that Pima will lose its next game by at least 30 points if they don't start running the clock all the time in the second half. I had to pick up someone at the East campus this week because they are having car problems and as i wandered around the campus looking for them, I noticed that the players are'nt even wearing football parafinalia. Last Spring, when I picked up my friend, I actually met football players and they were wearing stuff that they had received at the Pilgim's pride bowl.
BRING BACK THE STORM!
AZTEC FOOTBALL IS A POLITICALLY INCORRECT JOKE!

Louis Holmes is gonna have a field day against Pima when they come down to play... Louis is gonna be a five star juco guy, they are gonna have to award the first 6th star cause he is gonna look so good.

I'm embarrassed about this.
Maybe the guy won't show up. He may have a better view of the team from his ice cream shoppe.
Who didn't transfer a credit or semester from Pima ?
Spanish for me.
I always wonder why under Scurran didn't try to get a radio deal.
This is a shame. The scheduling is a joke. Too bad. I'm sure even Stoops would like to see them continue. Oh well they have a good softball team, right?

Well nobody thought he could coach and everybody now knows that he can't so I guess he figures that he doesn't even need to act the part since it is so apparent to every team they face that he stinks

When you don't pay your coaches, you get crappy teams.
The Basketball and Football coaches at Pima only get $2K-3K thousand per year.
Joke salery = Joke coaches
I just don't understand the thinking of a school or college w/o athletics.
I guess thats why there is an obesity and diebetes problem in the area, duh.
Make Ice Cream Man head of the Math department, then maybe Flores will eliminate the Math department by mistake instead of the Football program. No one will miss the Math dept.

Gawd, this Pima thing is really getting depressing. Perhaps Coach H will find the upstairs sh!tter or a bar stool a better place to "see the field differently" after his next loss.
Pima has had its share of issues over the years, not to mention the prez with a bogus resume, "Lady Crystal," etc., but this crap is unforgivable! We are witnessing the complete and absolute destruction of a fine, proud football program. It's like Genghis Khan has been deployed as AD, bound and determined to practice a scorched earth policy on his own people.....
Back to finding my high blood pressure meds.......

Don't worry.
It looks like I might get away to the Pima game tonight since the Arizona game is sold out. Since "Ice Cream Man" will be in the stands. I'll be able to give him some good plays so that Pima gets a couple of scores. I'll give him some blitz packages too so that the other teams scoring will be under 50 points. If he doesn't listen to me, is an idiot stooge picked to be the football coach to destroy the Pima football program!
