Let's get this thread going...

I say we finally unleash the beast for a good 60 point W
UA - 74
USC - 14

Pete Carol is a class guy. He won't run up the score intentionally. Besides, he can play his second and third stringers the entire second half to rest the some of the beat up starters.

USC 55
UA 6

I honestly won't be shocked if we score two touchdowns and a fieldgoal. SC will score somewhere between 40 and 400.

USC attempts a punt on its last possession but Tom Malone forgets where to line up for a safety out of the back of the endzone.

With the past 2 slow starts for SC, they will probably come out with a purpose. They could hang 50 on us in the first half.

UA 14

Remember, USC struggled to beat Stanford last year. They're due for a "downer" after two straight tough road games. Covering the spread will be a challenge.

hmmm..predicting the usc game is always amusing.
considering our offensive woes, constant miscues, and general stupidity when it comes to taking advantage of things like 85 yd punt returns, ints, and fumble recoveries...hmmm

USC 49
UA 9 (3 folk field goals)

same score as last year, no?

bhanson
10-04-2005, 01:26 PM
Even USC third stringers can push away our first team D line, so even not running up the score it will be hard for them not to get 5-7 yards a pop.

SC 63-6, two Folk FGs as UA continues its red zone woes.

UA
20 Folk FGs
1 Baugher pass TD on a fake FG
1 Baugher rush TD on a fake punt

SC
2 Bush TDs

Pete Carol is a class guy. He won't run up the score intentionally.
This is inaccurate, I believe. If you've watched USC over the past couple of years you have seen fake punts up four TD's in the 4th quarter, calling deep pass plays late in the 4th of a three TD game to get Leinart some better stats, and numerous instances of leaving starters in way too long, and running up the score on teams...He most definitely is not a class guy, and in fact he is known as the opposite in regards to this particular issue. Having said that, he has not run up the score against Arizona the past few years, and I suspect there is going to be a bit of a letdown this week for 'SC (as there honestly usually is when they are playing a poor team) in between ASU and Notre Dame.

USC 51

I'm mocking the fact that every "expert" thinks the Stros are going to win. Damon grabbed a hat in the celebration and I guess the equipment guy messed up and he was wearing a Stros hat. He didn't even know until after.

Arizona won't score 36 points in any game this year... and definitely not against US freaking C. Divide your predicted total by 12 and that's much more likely. :)

I'm going with:

This is intolerable. Let me sugarcoat this very delicately for those with tender sensibilities:

I see NO #@$%ing POINT WHATSOEVER in picking against our team. It is unseemly at best. If we lose, I would take no pride or satisfaction in predicting our loss. WHAT ARE YOU #@%#ing AFRAID OF???

I choose instead to phrase things just a tad more positively - to wit, "For Arizona to win the USC game, and by so doing to pull off one of the greatest upsets since David had good aim, the score of Saturday's game would have to resemble something similar to Arizona 33, USC 31 - in double overtime".

Consider the circumstances for such a score to occur! It is a much more pleasant exercise than taking the position of the masses (and the spread). Sure, USC is favored, and for very clear reasons. So what - an Arizona win *would* be an upset of epic proportion.

Ya know what, folks? We ain't lost yet, and I see absolutely no point in predicting a loss - especially on, of all places, the premiere UA fan site in the world. The LAST fooking thing I want to hear in the Coliseum is, "Yeah, even the diehard UA fans were picking against their team." - where I'm from, that is just pathetic.

To quote 'Eurotrip' in relative context, "For shaaaaaame..." I'll tell you what you win by picking against Arizona - a trip to Club VanderSexxx, that's what ... and no safe word for you.

And no matter what anyone says about how much better this SC team is or how much better that UA team was.....Dont forget October 11 1981 as the headline reads... Cats shock #1 USC 13-10.....Miracles can happen. Even unthinkable ones. And they can happen at the strangest of times. I still believe we will win every game. Always have, always will. My prediction..

By the 2nd quarter, my wife (who I am dragging to the game with me on our vacation) will be tugging at my shirt asking to leave. Questioning why we should stay at the game as Arizona is getting stomped.

By the 3rd quarter, she will be making jokes about my alma mater... while I, in return, slam the small Division II school she went to.

By the 4th quarter, the remaining Arizona fans will be chatting TUI, TUI, TUI, TUI

Predicting an Arizona loss to USC does not make one any less of a fan. you know what it makes them-

Coherent :)

Seriously man, I'll be one of the few thousand in blue or red cheering for the Cats and won't be happy to see my team get rolled (which they will be, so stop pretending the won't) just like I was last year. It's one thing to be optimistic, it's another to be delusional. Even the best of fans know that sometimes the team they bleed for is not going to win. And no matter how much I want the Cats to win, I know it's not going to happen this week. So why should I make a silly prediction and go into a road game and brag how the UA is going to beat the #1 team in the country when it ain't gonna happen???

I have to wonder if Coach Stoops or his assistants ever read the stuff on these boards. Surely, there is someone within the athletic department who reads these - how else could they "take the temperature" on public sentiment?

I would like to go on record with this. When Stoops was hired, we KNEW the suffering would continue for a while. We knew it was going to get worse before it got better. One year to recruit, one more for redshirting said recruits. All the while still trying to make due with substandard talent. It is rational to expect more losses and lots of them.

The biggest area of concern for THIS fan is: WHy has this coaching staff not been able to teach 22 starters how NOT to commit idiotic penalties? Offsides. Illegal procedure. Delay of game. Too many guys on the field. Forget this, forget that. Illegal formation.

What the f*ck is going on that this collection of coaches, touted as they are, coming from the University of "By God" Oklahoma - CANNOT SEEM TO TEACH fundamentals? Granted, we're not talking rocket scientists. But we're not talking Rocket SCIENCE either, for Christ's sake.

This concerns me very much.

*LOL* As usual, your spin has outpaced anything that resembles logic. I wonder if you even realize what you type sometimes. Here it is again, slowly:

1) Not picking against your team does not equal bragging that they'll win.

2) Predicting a score not in favor of your team *does* equal picking against your team. Picking against your team is weak. Period. If there were 100 fans in a room, and 50 picked against Arizona, and 50 didn't - I'd call the 50 who didn't the better fans.

3) Don't put words in my mouth, junior. Save the spin for your friends at the Fox News Channel.

BWC,

I know that I'm wasting my time with this, but nevertheless I'll address you point by point and in slow motion so that you don't get lost.

1. If you're not picking against your team, then why don't you just say you're picking them? Instead you are chosing to use a double negative to hedge your bets in making an atrocious prediction this week, By saying that you pick the Cats to win, you are propping them up this week. There is no way to spin this. And if you don't believe you're bragging and that you're making a solid college football prediction, then there's no saving you.

2. Picking your team to win every game (especially when your team is playing as poorly as the Cats are) is sophomoric and myopic. Picking your team who has won 3 Division 1 games in 2+ seasons to beat the 2 time defending National Champs and #1 Team in The Country on the road is well, there are no words to describe doing that. And there you go again with calling people with an outrageously biased view better fans. In fact, quite the opposite can be argued to you calling people picking the Cats better fans, since doing so implies that you probably have not watched one down of college football or a UA game this season. Real fans and good fans live in the real world. That being said, I know there are great fans on both sides of these predictions. Some of us chose to be realistic, while other chose to live in Fantasyland. Don't worry BWC, everything will be alright. :wink2:

3. Everything I said in my reply is taken or inferred from what you wrote in yours. If I incorrectly assumed anything, then please show me where. And as for Fox News Channel, boy, I sure do hope I get to become friends with some of the Female News Anchors there. ;)

4. It's not cheapening the memory of anyone to live in the reality rather than a make believe place. Anyone who picks the Cats this week seriously needs to seek medical help as he/she is either delusional or has suffered a blow to the brain. Being optimistic and cheering on the Cats is fun. Picking the Cats to win this week and then berating and criticizing those of us who do not is just plain weird.

5. The last time I checked I don't live in the Valley. So in addition to you picking up a newspaper and finding out what's really happened in college football for the last 3 years or so, you also want to check out a Thomas Guide so you don't get lost on your weak attempt to talk geographical smack. :)

My reply to Auercat [sic] negative rep was the following: "that's the best you can do? predictable negative rep and a weak, rambling attempt at a response? we're sitting here laughing at you. seriously - consider internet addiction therapy - soon."

Funny stuff all the way around.

In the end, there are fans, and then there are fans who remember and understand what the word 'fan' is short for - *fanatic*. I never picked against the Red Sox, the Celtics, or the Bills - add up *those* losing seasons, eh? *twitch* And naturally, I hate (not despise, not dislike intensely, not have issues with, but *hate*) the Yankmees and the Lakers to this day (sorry, Newport Cat :)).

I wonder how many "diehard fans", with whom our beloved moderator claims to identify and for whom he has become the self-appointed spokesman, have put money on the other team to win versus Arizona? Where does it end?

Sure, on paper, if you handicap the USC game it looks like a 40-point blowout or worse. That is neither in dispute, nor is it the point.

Diehard fans do *not* pick against their own teams. Ever.

PS: Thanks for the PMs and the positive rep to offset [sic]'s tantrum - I don't quite understand how that all works but appreciate the gestures nonetheless.

BWC,

Where did I say I put my money on, errr bet against the Cats? :fur: Never have and never well. I simply like many of the good fans here made a prediction that the UA was going to lose this one game and then proceeded to get called a fair weather fan by you. In addition my "tantrum" was only a response on your diatribe (we can forward a dictionary to you on that if you like :) ) on who is and is not a fan.

And I'll stand by what I said- You can love your team as much if not more than the next guy, even if you believe your team is not going to win every game. Calling those of us who pick the Cats to lose this game non-fans is laugable. Now I'm off to the game. Are you going BWC?

PS Please save the name calling for another place BWC. It will get edited out of this forum every time.

PPS Congrats on getting rep. I wouldn't brag about that "accomplishment". ;)

BWC

Amen to that! No matter what the odds! GO CATS! I say history repeats, 13-10 Cats!

There is a difference between betting on it and being realistic. I am not about to go to Vegas and bet on AZ losing- ever. But if someone asks me about this game I am going to be truthful. It makes sense

The score won't be indicative of the state of our program, but we currently still are a weak one--hoping for the future--Go Cats!:)

I wouldn't bet on the Cats, period.

If I bet on them to win, the Chicat jinx will certainly cause them to lose, and if I bet on them to lose then not only am I an ass of a fan, but karma will bite me in the nutsack and Arizona will somehow eek out a victory, thus giving me a good feeling, but leaving me with a light wallet.
