As a 2-6 football team we draw more fans than a 4-4 football team. God, I love us, and I love watching ASU slowly crumble into nothingness.

Hey Slimecat, last I checked, 57,678 was more than the 48,052 that showed up in Tucson last week.

Indeed they are:
Sun Devil Stadium Capacity 73,379 / 57,678 = 78.6%
Arizona Stadium Capacity 57,803 / 48,052 = 83.01%
Back to math class for you. They have those at ASU, no? :p
Not to mention ASU plays in metropolitan Phoenix.

By saying:
"As a 2-6 football team we draw more fans than a 4-4 football team."
You mean:
We can get more fans in the stadium (not we have a higher percentage of our stadium filled). The statement asks for number of fans, therefore, it is incorrect.
Anyway, yes, ASU is in Phoenix. But, Tucson is 1 hour from Phoenix (not that far). Plus, Tucson is a big city too. It's not like you are in Ajo and drawing 45,000 fans here guys.

Seriously... You're arguing attendance?
C'mon. You should be more concerned with the offense. That you forced 7 turnover and ONLY scored 29pts and the defense let OSU back in the game.

By the way - What is the Population in Phoenix compared to Tucson lately? Isn't a 4 to 1 ratio or greater?
Oh I forgot, Phoenix has the NFL Cardnals which splits the ASU fan base! That explains it.

I watched that sorry replay and couldn't believe the lack of fans in the stand. I guarantee there were not 56,000 fans at the game. Maybe paid attendance, but the empty seats to not support those numbers. Also, the ASSU student section is lifeless and empty from what I saw. Oh by the way this was their homecoming. Pathetic!

"As a 2-6 football team we draw more fans than a 4-4 football team." - that is an incorrect statement - as I pointed out.

The problem with ASU fans is that they are bandwagons. That is how things work up here in Phoenix. Take a look at the D-Backs, they win the world series and can't sell out most of their games the next year. The Red Sox win the world series and sell out every home game before the season even starts. That is why I can't stand any ASU fans because they only come out when their team is good.

Fox panned the student section right before kickoff and it looked like there were about 75 people there total...PATHETIC! 50,000 students and we can't get 5,000 to fill the student section every game - win or lose?
Could the Sun Devil Insider suck any more? I tivo'd it thinking it would fire me up a little for the game but I found myself pulling out the vacuum during the show...enough of the variety show act already.
I still wish we couldve gotten Spurrier. Look at what hes doing with little talent. I know some of you would rather revel in bitterness and lose then have him coach ASU , but wouldnt it be nice to be able to attract top recruits just because Spurrier is the coach. Its hard to look positive to this season, as id like to see ASU win out and go to a bowl, but that would just mean Koetter would get another year to raise our expectations and hopes and leave us disappointed. If we were to go sub .500 i think the AD would have to take a serious look at the program. Oh wait, i think Rob Evans is still at ASU as well, meaning Koetter should be here for another 4 sub par years. On another note, next year is the ten year cycle year...1986, Rose Bowl and 10-1-1....1996, Rose Bowl and 11-1.....2006 Rose Bowl and ????..we can only hope.

There was not 56,000 people at sds last saturday and this is why sau students do so lousy in school, if you go to a game and it is 83 % full does it look as full if it is 78% full. I realize that this might make sau students use their brains and they may have to look in the back of the book or ask a professor what the answer is. But you have 5 times the population base that we do and you still can't sell out your stadium, even for Pat Tillman, may he rest in peace. That's ridiculous.

Ok, you get the motard post of the day designation.
You don't seem to have any clue that Phoenix is one of the top destinations in the country for people to move. Check the stats. The population boom here of the last 5-10 years has been crazy. So there are more people here have alligences to other schools. All four major sports are here - 5 if you include the Rattlers. We have minor league baseball and hockey. Nine months out of the year we have unbeatable weather. No major natural disasters. The cost of living is one of the best in the country for a major metro area. It is a transient city for now.
In fact there probably more UofA fans here than Tucson. Why? Because they know there isn't a god damn thing to do in Tucson besides watching UofA sports. So yeah, the fans base might be stronger. Every sports team has bandwagoners, UofA is no different.
For someone who lives in the valley you should know this.
Tucson always has and always will be a second rate city. You can try to argue it however you want, but facts are facts.

Tucson vs. Phoenix. That arguement has been beat to death on this board. If you haven't lived any where outside of Phoenix or Arizona you really don't know what a desirable big city is. Phoenix has no charm whatsoever. The city leaders really just strive to be LA East. Live in a large city with things to do like San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle and then tell me how desirable you think Phoenix is.

Bills, I as well live in the valley, and it is horrible. The freeways are horrible, every block you drive you reach a new ghetto, there really is no downtown to speak of, and it is hotter than sh!t in the summer.
Tucson on the other hand is much more desirable. It is not trying to be something that it is not. And it even cools down at night in Tucson.
And did you really say that the cost of living is decent? Are you kidding me? A house that you could have bought last year in October, that was built in 1971, 1200 sq. ft, cost $125K last year. It has now doubled in price. Please tell me you don't really believe that the cost of living is decent.

If you're a seller would you be complaining? And it's still cheaper than other comparable metro areas. I'm not saying it doesn't suck, but it's still better than most areas.

I know plenty of people who live in those cities and others. But you're trying to compare Phx to SF or Chicago. This is about Tucson and Phx.
What Phx is to those, tucson is to Phx.

Unbeatable weather 9 months out of the year ? I don't think so, from April to October phoenix is comparable to death valley temperature wise, that's 7 months out of the year. It gets bad here, but nothing compared to phoenix and it's humidity.

I'm sorry to continue this ridiculous argument about phoenix and tucson but Dubbin, are you serious??? I'm the biggest UA fan I know, I detest ASU and Tempe Normal with every fiber of my being, but how are you going to sit here and say Phx area freeways are horrible. We actually HAVE freeways in Phx, you can get to the other side of a very spread out town in 15 minutes. I love Tucson, have lived there but that's the one thing that I hate about it, it takes an hour and a half to get from Oracle & Ina to Broadway and Wilmot because the damn roads were designed for a city a fourth the size and have never been improved. Tucson traffic and transportation has and still does continue to drive me to the point of insanity everytime i'm there.
Having said that, ASU sucks.
Dubbin
11-01-2005, 06:21 PM
15 Minutes huh? I used to live 26 miles from work, it would take me 1 hour and 30 minutes to get home. Yeah, I would say that the freeways suck. Wait, let me rephrase that. They suck during rush hour, that would be from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., so they suck for more than half of the day.
HaCats
11-01-2005, 06:41 PM
Fair enough, they do suck at rush hour, but so does every other big city at rush hour. I've lived in both places and it takes twice as long to go the same distance in Tucson. Tucson's 2 lane major thoroughfares were enough to drive me crazy. Hey, to each his own though.
ASUCatfan
11-01-2005, 06:47 PM
The ONE thing I will take about the Phoenix are over Tucson is the freeway system. Sure, it sucks that it takes me 25 minutes to drive the 5 miles from the on ramp near my house to the off ramp at my work but it beats the hell out of sitting at Grant and Swan for 10 minutes and 6 cycles of the damn stoplight during rush hour. :fur: It used to take me well over an hour to get from my house at Broadway/Swan to my Mom's house at Swan/Sunrise when I was invited over for dinner. Tucson traffic sucks and the surface streets are in horrible shape compared to the roads up here.
Still, as far as Tucson goes, the pros outweigh the cons. I would much rather live there than the capital of wife swapping. (A.K.A. Scottsdale.)

according to this quote, u of a should have had more fans in the stands. And my last math class told me that 57,678 was greater than 48,052. If you want to say a greater percentage of Arizona Stadium was full than you would be correct. However, the statement was that we draw more fans (which means total number, not percentage of capacity). I know English is a tough language and it takes years to master, so I will forgive you for your confusion.
Also, Tempe is part of metro-Phoenix, which most people refer to as Phoenix. Thanks for playing.....

But, Tucson is 1 hour from Phoenix (not that far)
If Time = Distance/Rate, and Brian's statement of 1 hour travel is true (it's not), it would take well over "1 hour" to reach Kleenex from Tucson.
Let's solve for Time, using realistic numbers.
Distance: Tucson to the Valley of Crime/Smog = ~120mi if not more.
Rate: Vehicle attempts to maintain speed of 65mph, but average speed works out to 45mph due to gridlock after approaching the Chandler area.
120mi/45mph = 2.6 hours of joy.
I hate to nitpick, but I hate it when our bros up north start shaving points from the "real score."
