Holmes confirms commitment to Cats
JOHN MOREDICH
Defensive end Louis Holmes can't practice with the UA football team yet, but that has not stopped the nation's No. 1-rated junior college player from being a regular at the Wildcat practices field.
So, to any Wildcat fans worried about him not appearing once fall camp starts: STOP.
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound monster of a man says he is finishing a pair of classes at Pima Community College and is ready to suit up for the Cats.
"I'm going to be there for sure, for sure," he said yesterday.
The ex-Scottsdale Community College standout says his phone has been quiet. Other schools have stopped trying to persuade him to play somewhere else. He has told everybody he is a Wildcat.
Believe him.

My confidense in Long is wavering. The guy has been away from football for over a year. Plus the DT's we have now are really stepping up their game. I could also see Marcus Smith moving inside now that Turner is becoming a dominate force and Holmes being the favorite to start at strong side DE.
DE Louis Holmes
DT Yaniv Barnet
DT Marcus Smith
DE John Turner
This is deffinitely a dominate D-Line.

advertisementLouis Holmes isn't famous — yet.
For now, the most accomplished junior college recruit in UA football history is your typical Pima College student.
Holmes commutes from his home near the UA campus to classes on the North and East sides of town, and spends his free time working out at a nearby gym — albeit with a personal trainer.
If all goes according to Holmes' plan, the former Scottsdale Community College player will be an Arizona student by July and a full-blown football star by — oh — September.
"I think I'll be 10 times better than I was at Scottsdale," said Holmes, a 6-foot-6-inch, 270-pound defensive end.
"I know (the UA's) defense, so it's going to be pretty easy. I know what I can do, and I know what big plays I can make. I'm a player."
Holmes hasn't swayed from the commitment he made to the Wildcats in December, even though he was one of two players who failed to qualify academically in time to enroll for the spring semester.
The other player, Gabe Long, is currently taking a class with Holmes at Pima. Holmes said Long is also on track to graduate.
Holmes plans on submitting his Pima transcript to Scottsdale Community College in May. Once SCC grants him an associates' degree, Holmes will be able to sign with the UA and enroll. Holmes expects to begin taking classes at the UA on either June 5 or July 10, when the school's summer sessions begin.
Coach Mike Stoops will be excited — and relieved — once Holmes officially enrolls. The Cats' fiery coach landed the five-star recruit despite a last-minute power play by USC coach Pete Carroll, whose pitch was so convincing that Holmes delayed his press conference for 50 minutes before deciding on the UA.
In part because of Holmes' commitment, the Wildcats' class was rated No. 16 in the country by the Scout.com recruiting service.
Stoops is prohibited from talking about Holmes or Long due to NCAA rules, though he made a passing reference to the recruits Thursday.
"If we can add a couple guys to the mix this summer, I think we're going to be formidable across the board defensively," Stoops said Wednesday.
Stoops doesn't have to say anything. Holmes is ready to shine.
Said Holmes: "I'm eager to start, you know?"

OMG!! It sounds like LH is giving notice (to everyone in the Pac) that he's coming to make a huge impact for the Wildcats. I wonder if the defense is getting fired up yet? September can't come too soon.
