View Full Version : Ugliest Win Ever?

It was needed, to say the least, but it was almost as bad as a loss.

BYU is a second tier team. So are the Cats if they can't get the offense on track.

LSU will ea the Cats as will most PAC-10 teams.

Yeah, I'm complaining about a win. Great D ! We need Willie and the O to step it up. Other thoughts:

The O-line is still a problem.
Where were the deep receivers?
The running game isn't -- one good run doesn't make it.
Where's the offensive play book?
The defense carried the team.

It's a win, but like a giant burrito late at night, it's still hard to digest.

BYU is a second tier team.
Negative...BYU is not a second tier team...They are a good team that played in a bowl game last year...we didn't...

Why don't you give the Cats some credit for a win...and stop complaining about how it was done...

Terrible thread title.

These are the kind of games we have lost the last 6 years.

BYU penalty negates TD.
BYU penalty negates INT.
BYU botched snap (which I called to the people in seat 27 & 28 right before it happened ... hey after 20 years of going you get one right from time to time).

We won. We have major work to do no doubt about it.

Did I post we won ?

Not even close to the ugliest win ever. I guess you haven't been around long.

We should have crushed this team. BYU is garbage. We are going to get killed by LSU.

We had some pretty ugly wins when I went to school (circa 93-97).

After UCLA last year, we thought we were hot sh$t. Then we stunk up the field with an uninspired performance against washington. We may see a different team next week and I bet we play much better. I hope. But a Win is a Win! WOOOOOOOOO!

This is my third year going to school here, so I've only seen a few wins at home, and only been able to watch a grand total of 6. I'll take the win no matter how it came.

I'd rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss :wink2:

I completely disagree that BYU is a second tier team. I thought they were pretty good. Our D stepped up big against a potent offense. We struggled on offense, but you have to credit a good defensive plan and execution. We pulled the win out and it's historically (last few years) been a game we'd lose. This win, no matter, if ugly, is HUGE.

Does not even rank in the top 20 ugliest wins,,,I have been watching this team since the Tony Mason era,,,there have been many

I called it too! I turned around to my uncle while they were setting up and started talking about how they had to hold open tryouts, since there were so many problems. And then I said we would either block it or it would go over his head, then BAM!

Look, I posted about the negatives of last night's win before the positives too.

But how can anyone say Arizona's going to get "killed" going into LSU? Where's the proof?

Arizona plays up to its opponents, and will again Saturday. That most of the starters should go into the game highly p*ssed-off over not putting BYU away will be no small factor.

The team knows it has work to do, guys. And it WILL give the LSU Tigers a game, for all four quarters. Count on it.

THANK YOU catgrad97. A voice of reason......

Man, the whining, pessimism and Profits of Doom around here are making me ill. One might think we lost, or worse yet, that this is the cactus Raunch board. Geeezus..........

Bearing down on a GREAT game at LSU and trying to ignore the doomsayers.

Congrats on the win. This was definitely the type of game that the Cats would've found a way to lose in the last couple of years. Instead, they found a way to win.

Having said that, the offense must get on track or there are definitely going to be some confidence damaging blows (possible shut-outs) later in the schedule. Because of the poor tackling and containment, Henry was able to make that long run, but outside of that the offense produced nothing. But, offensive development usually runs behind the defense at this time of the season, so perhaps they'll come around. They are really going to have to do a much better job of protecting Tuitama. If BYU was getting penetration and putting licks on him, it could get ugly over the next few weeks. And they definitely can't afford to lose him!

Holmes looked like the real deal, albeit against a second tier team. Lots of good hitting from most of the defense.

BYU is a second tier team, but that offensive line is not second tier. Holmes is the real deal pretty much no matter what.

There is absolutely nothing arguable that I can see about this assessment. BYU's #41, in particular (name, anyone?) was coming through unblocked, repeatedly, from left end in the second half to chase down Henry and Tuitama.

One group that I think CANNOT be made any more excuses for is Arizona's offensive line. Forget, for a moment, opening holes for the run: protecting Tuitama is Job One with this bunch, and they didn't do it very well last night.

Anyone can offer the usual litany of statements like, "They're young," "It was their first game together as a unit because of injuries," and so on, but allowances cannot afford to be made anymore.

Certainly, NONE will be made if an LSU Tiger gets through to Willie T Saturday and knocks him out for a series--or worse. Expectations for Arizona's O-line should be higher than to allow a performance like last night's again, IMHO.
