Who should win, and try not to be biased...these are my top three candidates for the NL Cy Young through the first half of play.

*Kevin Brown, LA: 10-2, 2.22 ERA, 92 K's in 105.1 IP (Dodgers 2nd place).

*Jason Schmidt, SF: 7-3, 2.23 ERA, 117 K's in 109.0 IP (Giants in 1st place).

*Mark Prior, Chi.: 8-3, 2.61 ERA, 127 K's in 110.1 IP (Cubs in 1st place).

I'll take Mark Prior.

Comparing Nomo to Prior going into today:

Wins:
Nomo 9
Prior 8

ERA:
Nomo 2.41
Prior 2.61

Shutouts:
Nomo 2
Prior 1

Strikeouts:
Prior 111
Nomo 103

Team Record:
Nomo 45-32
Prior 41-36

Nomo : Better stats, on a better team, against better competition than Prior. And Nomo is still 3rd on his own TEAM in terms of Cy Young worthiness.

My vote would go:

1. Brown
2. Smoltz
3. Gagne

4. (and rising) WILLIS

If the vote was base more on MVP principles rather than sheer stats, I would lean more towards Shmiddy. He's won some big ones.

Mark Prior knocked around again today by the Braves. Way to put your curse on him Ben. :)

Woody Williams has to be given serious consideration. 12-3, 3.01 ERA and batting .270. Although my vote would probably go to Smoltz or Gagne, I think Williams has been the best SP in the NL this year.
