View Full Version : Baffled by the confusion ...

...is what I am. I don't think it is so baffling that Mackovic tried another hand at QB, especially after O'Hara's turnover orgy in the first half against Purdue, which started the landslide. His first two options are not playing out. After alternating quarters in the first two games, then responding to complaints by the two that they couldn't find a rhythm with that approach by trying complete halfs by them, the coach tried to make something happen. Now COSTA SAYS HE'S CONFUSED ... has he watched his own tapes? He LOOKS CONFUSED on the field most of the time. O'hara has looked a little better at times, then came apart in his first big chance on Saturday. Now the newspapers and posters are saying the QB situation is so CONFUSING. It wouldn't be if either Costa or O'Hara had produced! Posters on this site said Heavner looked the best in fall drills -- is it a sign of giving up to go with the best alternative when the first two fail? I say NO -- it's a sign of continuing to try to find the best hands. To be fair to Mackovic (and believe me that is tough considering the last three games) he has tried to stockpile talent with redshirts his first two years, favoring the long term approach over quick fixes in general, but the nonproduction of the first two QB's has forced his hand here -- it shows me he is still trying. Now, Coach, go talk to Costa and tell him that he has a great future -- at SS!

"Coach, go talk to Costa . . ." What is troublesome to me (I won't speak for other posters), is that the coach is incapable of communicating this decision to his former #1 QB, let alone explaining why. He is the head coach and he doesn't have an obligation to explain anything, but if he doesn't want a revolt on his hands (this time from his own players, not Tomey's), then he better start communicating.

The other part of the quote from Nic Costa was, to paraphrase, he was given the cold shoulder from the coaches when he tried to figure out why he wasn't receiving practice snaps. If you're going to reshuffle the deck, at least be man enough to tell your players that you're going to do it, and better yet explain why.
