need not apply for the Head Coaching job. In fact, his defense has been so poor that it makes me wonder if he's even right for the DC job.

We have NO Pacl0 caliber players in the front 4, NONE. Hankwitz has proven what kind of a DC he is, he simply can't be fairly judged based upon 8 games with this caliber athlete upfront.

I think Stanford and Phillip and Williams are all pac 10 caliber they have no backups, depth is a bigger problem then talent...

I'd still like to see him as DC. He's proved he is a very good DC over the years. The ends are talented but they still need some work in the weight room. The DL got manhandled today. I do think it's safe to say that the list of canidates for head coach got trimmed by one today.

We are forced to play Stanford. I think he will be real in the future. Phillip is a redshirt frosh and isn't ready either, in my opinion. He will be good, I think. Williams is an average player. Perhaps I was too harsh to say they aren't "Pacl0 caliber." That probably is not fair, but they are way too few and, except for Williams, way too young. I admire their grit.

Since we are really playing a 4-3, we are relying on outside linebacker types to play down on the ends. We have real personnel issues when it comes o down guys and I sure don't blame Hankwitz for that.

If Hankawitz is such a great DC, then why didn't Dennis Franchionne keep him at A&M?

In all fairness, you are correct, the D-Line is horrible and has no depth at all. Hank cannot be blamed for that and his work as DC cannot be judged by this season. But I can honestly say that Hank is NOT the best candidate for the HC position. He is a career assistant who to me is just as big a recycle as Mackovic was. I have faith that the UA can do FAR better (Stoops, Leach, Hawkins, Green, Coughlin) than hiring an older, unproven guy like Hankawitz. :)

"If Hankwitz is such a great DC, then why didn't Dennis Franchionne keep him at A&M?"

How often does a new head coach keep the old coach's coordinators? If your test for determining a "great" coordinator is whether a new coach keeps him after his boss is fired, you have missed the boat entirely.

I agree 100% with Auercat in terms of our "very low expectations." That Hankwitz' name was ever mentioned as a possible candidate speaks to how comfortable our fan base has gotten to losing.

I think that you were entirely missing both of my points. First point was Hankawitz would be a 2nd rate choice as a head coach. Second point, Hankawitz might be a good DC, but he's no world beater or superstar. I know that many new coaches purge the old regime, but some actually do keep some of the old assistants. If Hankawitz is such a great defensive guru as many people seem to intimate, maybe then Dennis Franchionne might have thought twice about keeping him on. Or maybe he knows something we don't.

Livengood is prepared to spend upwards of a million a year He knows he can't miss on this one. He has to win back the fans as much as is possible with this hire.

Hankwitz has had some great defenses at Texas A&M is that relevant now? No...

So will he be spending that on an inexperienced Hunley. Seems to me the majority of posts I have read are in favor of hiring Hunley. And now after reading Hanson's lovefest the numbers will increase. Not me. I would much rather the Cats go after a bigger name. Sure if none are interested, then that is a different story. Has Hunley's name ever been mentioned on any short lists for other HC jobs. Would the Cats be for hiring him if he had played college ball somewhere else? Unfortunately there is almost no doubt in my mind that Hunley will be the next coach. I will support him but my expections for the Cats to ever turn this mess around will be as low as possible.

He's probably had offers from smaller schools, but he only wants this job...

I would be shocked if we hire HUnley.

I don't know why a lot of people, including Pops Hansen, have this love affair with Ricky Hunley. He doesn't have a track record like a Stoops or a Hawkins. Oh, he played for Arizona... does that make him the most qualified? No. There are only six African-American coaches in I-A football... does that mean we should hire him? No. Race should have nothing to do with the hiring.
