The board came down to earth just a bit last weekend, overall a mark of 17-20, but 4-3 on the locks. DavidImmel and WP once again picked up the slack. Immel is 7-2 (2-0 locks) over the last two weeks, while the WP is a sizzling 13-2 (3-0 locks) over the last three weeks.

Last Week, Season Records:

WilmasPimp 4-1, Season 25-11 (Lock 4-1)
DavidImmel 4-1, Season 22-15 (Lock 3-3)
F Duke 3-4, Season 17-13 (Lock 4-0)
Real Dill 2-3, Season 17-14, (Lock 3-2)
OJ Did It 4-2, Season 6-5 (Lock 2-0)
Cactus Pants 2-3, Season 11-12 (Lock 2-3)
azdoubledown 1-3, Season 9-11 (Lock 1-1)
BibbysTowelDude 0-0, Season 3-3 (Lock 1-0)
CaliCat 0-0, Season 3-3 (Lock 0-0)
AZCAT07 0-0, Season 8-11 (Lock 1-3)
DAHTcom 0-0, Season 3-6, (Lock 1-1)
realcatsfan 1-5, Season 8-14 (Lock 0-3)

Consensus:
Last Week : 17-20, (Lock 4-3)
Season : 132-118, (Lock 22-17)

A few early leans:

Michigan State (+4) vs. Michigan

Virginia Tech (+ 3 1/2) vs. Miami

Oklahoma State (+16) @ Oklahoma

Oregon State and Florida State look too obvious right now.

Anyone else feeling the upset in that OU/OSU game?

DavidImmel

NO...with emphasis on the 'no'

CourtCat

if by upset you mean oklahoma only winning by 50 then i would say it is possible. oklahoma is going to kill osu..especially at home. although wp thinks otherwise and he does have the hot hand....

Oklahoma State has a quiet 7 game winning streak, in which they have covered 6 of 7. The only one they let get away was the Texas Tech game (when Leach and Co. backdoored with a 28-3 4th quarter). Simply put, the Cowboys are a solid, solid football team.

Oklahoma's offense hasn't been the same in their two games since the Texas rout, when Mack gave them 6 turnovers to work with. Both Colorado and Missouri "held" the Sooners to 34 points and under 450 yards.

So what I see is a Sooner team who might not be as great as people think, going up against a very solid, legitimate top 15 Cowboy squad. Throw in the fact that this is a freaky rivalry where the underdog had sprung the huge upset in two straight years, and I'll gladly take the 16 points.

I wouldn't touch that OU game with a ten foot pole. Too many factors to deal with. 16 points is alot though. In the end, I like OU's chances though. Here are my picks:

Florida +2 vs. Georgia - The Dawgs are finally gonna fall.

Mississippi-7 vs. South Carolina

Alabama Birmingham -21.5 vs. Army

Miami -3.5 @ Va. Tech

Oklahoma St. +16 @ OU

Michigan St. +4.5 vs. Michigan

Oregon +1.5 @ Washington - LOCK OF THE WEEK

Colorado St. -11.5 @ Wyoming

Texas Tech -14 vs. Colorado

WSU -11.5 @ USC

Southern Miss -21.5 vs. LA. Lafyette

More picks and the LOCK to be posted later.

How do you think Vtech is gonna cover this. I thought that Miami was one of the best bets this weekend.

I've felt that Va Tech would win this game all year long.

I know it's easy to hop off the Hokie bandwagon after their debacle against WVU, but I can write that off as a classic "look ahead" let down.

The EXACT same thing happened to Miami last month: with the huge game against Florida State looming, they stink up the joint against WVU and barely survive on a last minute FG.

So the general public is tricked into thinking Miami is terrible, and the bettors pound Florida State, making them a touchdown favorite. You know what happened next, the Canes bounced back and demolished Florida State.

If anything, VTs bomb last week against WVU is giving you a free 3 1/2 points, since this game would have been a pick 'em.

The Va Tech game is in Blacksburg. The Hokies have had since last Wednesday to lick their wounds and prepare.

The weather here has been very cold, rainy and windy. Depending on how the weather shapes up, it could be the classic situation of a warm weather team playing in really nasty conditions. Va Tech plays much better at home.

For Miami, Va Tech was exposed against the run. They are not big along the defensive line. The Hokies are hard to run wide against, but up the middle, with the right offensive line, you can have success.

I'd tend to go with the weather though. Nice day: Miami. Nasty day: Va Tech.

Two questions.

1) When was the last time Miami didn't show up for a big in-conference game?

2) When was the last time Va Tech did?

Yankees vs. Red Sox all over again Pimp. They could cover but there is no way Miami doesn't win this game.

Bad analogy.

Virginia Tech is 5-3 in their last 8 games vs. Miami.

Miami has won the last 3 so it's a perfectly good analogy. Miami has beat two top 20 teams in Florida and FSU. Who has Va Tech beaten? Cupcake schedules only get you so far my friend. James Madison, Central Florida, a horrible TX A&M, UCONN and Rutgers. What would lead you to think that Va Tech will even compete with Miami? In the paraphrased words of Santana Moss, "big time programs win big time games"

Miami 32
Va Tech - 10

Immel Says:
Last Week: 4-1
Season: 27-15

Lock-Washington State +12 1/2 @ SC...Wazzu's D is the fastest Matt Leinart has seen so far this year...and they make plays. If he throws a couple early picks, WSU has a good chance to win, let alone just cover. Special teams is very important in this game as well. SC's punter outkicks his coverage a lot, and Sammy Moore might make SC pay for it.

Virginia Tech + 3 1/2 vs. Miami...This is where that long Big East winning streak for Miami will come to a stop. I had VaTech and Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl at the beginning of the year, and while that won't happen now, they will win the Big East in Miami's last year in the conference because of this win. Kevin Jones will hold onto the football, and Randall and the D will make enough plays to win...VaTech 27 Miami 21.

Good Luck, Everyone.

Pimps Plays:

Oregon State (-22) over Arizona ***Lock of the Week***
-Cats are 0-10 straight up and 2-8 vs. the spread last 10 games on the carpet. Average loss of 36-5 last three games vs. Beavers. I honestly believe our players could care less whether we lose by fifteen or fifty.

Michigan State (+4) over Michigan

Florida State (-12) over Notre Dame

Oklahoma State (+16) over Oklahoma

Washington (-1) over Oregon

Chance Mock should never see the green grass on a football field again....sucks when you find the answer to the most important question for your football team after you've dropped out of the national title hunt. Closing the barn door after someone BURNED IT THE F+CK DOWN. Vince Young, 2005 Heisman Trophy finalist.

WP,

My foot is in my mouth and I am eating crow. You were right all along about Va Tech. I will never doubt your knowledge again.

Thanks F Duke. I was was able to overcome two terrible picks (against Michigan and Oklahoma) to finish 3-2.

azdoubledown laid the down the hammer with a 9-1 week. His only loss was taking Kentucky +4 and losing in 7 overtimes. Very impressive.

This was by far my worst betting week of the season. And to top it all off, I went 1-3 in the NFL. Thank God for the NBA.

oh one more thing. i thought the rules on this deal were take 5 picks and one lock at 1 point a piece and 2 pts for the lock. how in the hell can someone go 9-1 while making 5 picks. im pretty sure my math is right here in saying that is impossible

F Duke
11-05-2003, 02:46 PM
If that's the case, I would like 5 losses removed from my record after my stellar 1-9 performance last week.

Too Late I went 5-0 in week 2 but 9-1 is impressive and those are the days I dream about. A solid 8 hunsky is something I could use in my wallet right about now

DavidImmel,

Its really starting to look like Simms-Applewhite again. I understand that Chance Mock is like the 4th rated passer in the country but none of those stats came against a decent team. Vince Young is the complete package. Cant throw the short ball yet but he has a cannon and some work on his mechanics and he will be fine. And if you want to talk about speed, look out...

My pics for this week:

ARKANSAS -7.5
TEXAS TECH -27.5 (LOCK)
AUBURN -7.5
HOUSTON +5.5
IOWA +2.5

WP, you slackin' while you Pimpin'...I gotta lay it down now before the new thread.
Immel Says:
Last Week: 2-1
Season: 29-16

Lock-Oregon + 1 1/2 vs. Berkeley.....Oregon is down, but not this bad. Autzen still means something, and while everyone knows I'm first in line to get on my knees for Aaron Rodgers, Cal has been too inconsistent this year to think they'll be able to pull this one off. Oregon will rally around Keith Lewis and Kevin Mitchell, both senior defensive players, and have an inspired game this Saturday.

South Carolina + 8 @ Arkansas....Arkansas is coming off of a 7 OT effort vs. UK, and on a short week, they have to be tired going into this game. Lou Holtz has done a pretty good job this year with a mediocre team, but look for them to pull the upset in this one.

Purdue -2 1/2 vs. Iowa.....Purdue was embarrassed at Michigan a couple of weeks ago, but they know they are still in contention for the Rose Bowl. Before that debacle in Ann Arbor, they were playing the best football in the country, and I think they pick it up this week.

Good Luck, Everyone.
