Top 15 player nationally in 2005, committed to West Virginia, decommitted from West Virginia to go to USC, then backed out of that and went back to WV.

Got in a lot of trouble his first year in the classroom and around campus before he was kicked out of school. Went to Nassau CC but dropped out of there. Went back to West Virginia on his own dime but was not academically eligible to play football. He then was arrested for underage drinking, speeding and obstructing an officer. Was told to leave WV again and went back to Nassau where he completed six hours (!!) of classes and was then invited back to West Virginia.

Eventually he left after realizing he would not be eligible to play and went to CW Post where he played well last season but was asked to leave because of...wait for it...off the field issues.

He's now landed at Kean University (NJ) where he's unbelievably still got two years of eligibility remaining. One of the greatest careers in the history of New York state high school football has turned into this mess. He still thinks the NFL is in his future....

He still thinks the NFL is in his future....

And you think otherwise? He sounds like the prototypical NFL player to me.

From Div 1 to Div II to Div III, oh how the mighty have fallen.

Which got me to thinking about how many Div III players are in the NFL. And the answer is:

How many Division III players are in the NFL?

Jul 02, 2009 at 12:00 AM This is a difficult question because it requires one to define what you mean by "in the NFL."
In the 2008 season, here are the players who spent time on active rosters:

Arizona: Jerheme Urban, WR, Trinity (Texas)
Buffalo: Fred Jackson, RB, Coe
Denver: Nate Jackson, WR, Menlo
Houston: Matt Turk, P, UW-Whitewater
Indianapolis: Pierre Garcon, WR/RET, Mount Union
Kansas City: Andy Studebaker, DE/LB, Wheaton
N.Y. Jets: Jason Trusnik, LB, Ohio Northern
St. Louis: Derek Stanley, WR/RET, UW-Whitewater
Washington: London Fletcher, LB, John Carroll

This specifically does not include practice squad players, of which there were a few at the beginning of the 2008 season: St. Olaf WR Horace Gant (Washington), Mississippi College WR Jake Allen (Green Bay) and Salisbury CB Byron Westbrook (Washington). Steven Hauschka (Middlebury) played for the Ravens, but was drafted out of grad school at N.C. State and probably wouldn't have made the NFL straight out of Middlebury. (That's the NFL's loss.)

Clint Kriewaldt (UW-Stevens Point/Steelers) did not play in 2008 because of his injuries and appears to be retired. Michael Allan (Whitworth/Chiefs) was cut at the end of camp.

I remember Gwaltney running plays for WVU against Maryland in '05 before Steve Slaton took over. Both were true frosh back then and it's kinda weird thinking one is a steller aspect of the Texans offense, going into his 2nd year, and the other still has two years of eligibility left.
