#48 Rob Gronkowski

The Gronk is a 6-6, 265 tight end and is already the best tight end in Arizona history and may end up as the best in the country this year. He owns the game, season, and career AZ records for receptions, yards, and TDs by a tight end after playing only 2 seasons. He is a nasty blocker, catches anything close to him, and usually requires half the defense to bring him down. He is already one of the best football players you have ever seen in an Arizona uniform and I expect the best is still yet to come.

Even with all his records, the Gronk was underutilized during the last 2 years. As a freshman he was used sparingly in the first half of the season and never caught more then 6 passes in one game while still leading the team with 18.8 yards per catch. As a sophomore he was out the first 3 games with mono and wasn't back up to full strength or full time use until the 5th of 6th game. The Gronk has yet to play a complete season so expect him to smash all of his own records this year along with a lot of DBs.

As good as the Gronk is we will still have a team oriented offense. Anyone that tries to take the Gronk out of the game will find one of our receivers, running backs, or C. Gronk standing in their end zone. Let's face it, nothing makes the Gronk happier then getting to lay someone out so that his brother can score a touchdown.

Because he is already projected as a first round draft pick next year this will probably be the last year we will get to see the Gronk play as a Wildcat. We all need to enjoy every block, catch, run, and TD by a truly great football player.

I am all about team football, but I think we should do something special this year to acknowledge a truly special Wildcat. I would love to see everyone of these . . .

wearing a red t-shirt with "GRONK!" on the front and "America's Best Tight End" on the back. Hey, while we are at it, every guy in the student section could have red shirts with "GRONK! GRONK!" on the front and "Life's Better When You Have a Pair." on back.

We are in for a special year as a team and the best player on that team is Rob Gronkowski.

Here's a few links: Premium story on Gronk from Friday,Gronk's wikipedia page, and Kara's interview with the Gronk Bro's

Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Dan LeFevour, Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham. All are coming back for their senior years. Why not Gronkowski? Call me crazy, but maybe that's how programs really get better and better. By players like Britton and Gronkowski electing to stay for their senior years.

Here's to two Gronkowskis graduating from the UA.

That could happen, but barring unforseen circumstances Rob's football career at Arizona will be done after this season.

That's what is crazy..between mono and him not being used much the beginning of the 2007 season Gronk has barely played more than 1 full season. And he has all the records.

The only real surprises are McCoy and Bradford... maybe JG... since LeFevour goes to a non-BCS school and no one expects Tebow to play QB in the NFL so he should solidify his legacy as a college player.

The bottom line is this: If you are being guaranteed 1st round money, the safe bet is to go.It is a gamble for anyone not going because anything can happen to blow that.

We are talking the difference between having F-U money and being set for life, or having to struggle to even make the league, or not make it at all.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hope Rob stays and then goes #1 overall in the 2011 draft. But I won't blame him one bit if he doesn't. Great programs have the ability to have all their elite players leave after 3 years and stay great, not rely on them to stay as long as possible.

Actually, considering what kind of a family he has.. how they are hard-working people, who believe that school is important- I would not be surprised at all to see Gronk stay.

I know you are right and that all the financial reasons are there for moving on. He will probably go. I just wish that, in football and basketball, being real good did not mean you foresake getting a degree. I would get as much fun seeing a picture of Rob standing on the floor of McKale wearing a mortar board as I would seeing a picture of him standing in the end zone. I know. I'm an old fashioned dork. But hey, I'll be there for all the home games and I'll be in Tempe for that one too. Let the games begin!

Agree with this. His family is not hurting for money and all that I've read - it seems like a degree is something that the parents feel is important. Rob's family also makes the kind of jack where it would not be a problem to insure Rob in case he does suffer an injury.

If the guy is truly enjoying the college life (how could he not) then insure the kid and let him enjoy his senior year. IF Arizona has an 8-4 type year then you know we could be scary good in 2010 with who we have coming back on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully that might also sway him into staying one more year.

Spoke with Gronk's high school coach at the Las Vegas Bowl (he started talking to me because he saw I was wearing a Gronk jersey). We have one more year of Gronk. He couldn't have been any more clear. Things could always change which is why I say unforseen circumstances but I wouldn't count on it.

What's the story on the youngest Gronk? Are we recruiting him? Is he coming to the UofA?

Thanks for that insight. I'll definitely enjoy him for this year. With any luck Rob will score all of his touchdowns in the north endzone...right beneath my seat in Section 202!

We better be. And he better be. If he is anything like his 3 Brothers then he is going to be a damn good football player.
