Some were waiting for the fallout from Sports Illustrated’s piece on the seemingly tumultuous state of Ben Howland’s UCLA program.

But, for now, the ripple effect is well-contained.

Kyle Anderson, the 6-8 guard/forward from St. Anthony (NJ) who signed in the fall to play for the Bruins, is solid in his decision to remain with Howland, according to his father.



“The article does not matter to Lil’ Kyle, nor our family,” Kyle Anderson Sr. told NBC Sports on Wednesday afternoon. “We support Coach Howland and the UCLA staff. Lil’ Kyle is still UCLA-bound in June.”

Anderson is one of the most coveted recruits in the country and one of two prospects signed to Howland’s crop in the Class of 2012.

Speculation has picked up that the Sports Illustrated story could spell the end for Howland in Westwood, but Anderson Sr. dismissed any desire to talk hypotheticals.

“No comment on that,” he said. “Sorry, but neither of us want to get into this matter.”

Anderson is a Top 5 talent in the Class of 2012, a unique combination of size, passing ability, and scoring ability.

He chose UCLA over St. John’s, Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Florida.

Kyle Anderson got his MRI results back Wednesday afternoon and they weren’t good.

The 6-foot-9 UCLA-bound point guard has torn ligaments in his thumb and Dr. Marc W. Urquhart of Bayonne, N.J., suggested surgery, which could keep Anderson out of action for three months.

“Dr. Urquhart says he has torn ligaments in his thumb and after reading the MRI and seeing the MRI he believes he needs surgery,” Kyle Anderson Sr. told SNY.tv Wednesday. “We respect his opinion and judgment but are still going to have a second opinion.”

Anderson, a McDonald’s All-American who led St. Anthony to back-to-back New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles, injured the thumb during the last practice before the New Jersey North Non-Public B state final in March.

He then reinjured it during practice for the McDonald’s Game.
