I'll agree with the golf courses. But actually I found this out by talking to a guy from the CAP he told me that the cotton fields put water back into the aquifer. Keep in mind this was a few years ago. Before Marana started building residential neighborhoods on plowed over cotton fields. I will submit that the same amount of water is used in those neighborhoods with lawn watering and everyday usage. That water ends up in the street or sewer.

Outdoor sports should be on grass, if at all possible. Do you think baseball should play on artificial turf? (There's, what three MLB teams still on plastic?) Why should football be different?

I've been a golf course owner here in Tucson for the last 8 years and I water my course with a grade A+ reclaimed ( effluent) water, not well/ground water. Golf courses fundamentally don't belong in deserts, but if they must exist, it makes no sense to use anything other than reclaimed water. Football fields, on the other hand...

I knew that the golf courses were using effluent water. I'm just not a huge fan of pasture pool...........

Of course Rich Rod is the catalyst for it. I can't believe how much crying there is over this issue.

Don't think the head coach should get to decide this. The AD should. Disappointed in Byrne for going along with it.

Would turf cut down on the injuries? I'm tired of losing our best players to knee injuries in preseason practice...

Exactly.

If Sean Miller wanted to make improvements to McKale and Byrne said no, people would be calling for Byrne to be fired.

Give Rodriguez what he wants, and watch the program grow.

screw that, football isn't played on carpet.

and in regards to the injuries... just check the practice field and our ration of ACL tears last year for the answer

actually football is played on carpet in many places college and pro....and many places with successful teams/programs. And if there was any insurmountable proof that modern day synthetic turf causes more acl tears than natural grass....do you honestly believe Rodriguez and other coaches around the country would be okay with having turf in their home stadiums? I think it's safe to say that Rodriguez wants to win badly....I dare say even slightly more than Joe fan.

Soon as it's in my donation to the lax team will shortly follow. Can't wait to see it.

Mule Deer - you should water your course with whatever the heck you want. If effluent is cheaper or you get a tax break great, otherwise drill some wells (if they'll let you, which they probably wont). Signed as a former Arizona well owner.

We can all blather on from sun up to sundown about the good and the bad of turf vs grass and I'm positive that there are good and bad points for both respectively.

Lets just let it play out and when the turf is installed and RR and the boy's have to play and practice on it over a summer then we'll get the real inside skinny on who like's it and who hates its.

In general I liked the grass and we have always had one of the nicest fields, but trying turf is not a deal breaker.

If its all RR's idea and he pushed it from the get go, then he own's it, lock, stock and barrel 100%.

You better win, no excuses now. You're getting all the bells and whistles from the get go.

As long as he gets Arizona to a Rose Bowl, RichRod can have the Cats playing on Legos for all I care.

If turf has advanced far enough that it is less of an injury risk than grass, so much the better. I just don't know if the team will be able to adjust successfully enough in non-turf venues.
