That England/Germany game was a great one. I can still remember the Gazza/Adams/Shearer flick on header for their early goal. Good times.

But back to the penalty shoot out, I really wonder if that Pirlo penalty was intentional. Not intentional in the sense Pirlo knew he was going to chip it right down the middle and look so cool doing it. Intentional in the sense that he knew he needed to do something for his guys, for his other penalty shooters to raise their confidence and belief up. That he needed to make a kind of "confidence move" to spur them on to the penalty win when they were behind.

For me it's very interesting. I think it's not impossible that Pirlo's move was an intentional attempt at a jedi mind trick to help his guys and to hurt the English; a sort of football psyop.

Ronaldo's on fire, and the Portuguese have that 4-0 friendly win under their belt, but this is still Spain's to lose. Too much possession, Arbeloa/Alba will be able to withstand the pressure on the wings, and, as has become their usual, Spain will grind one out.

Well, not the prettiest thing to watch, but grind it out Spain did. If the Spanish press weren't sure about the "Cesc, the False 9" experiment, they're gonna have a field day with the Negredo call.

Spain aren't the intimidating force they used to be, but that style of play, which at its best is sublime, is surprisingly capable of churning out slow, chanceless victories too. Germany still looks like the frontrunner, but a Spanish win on Sunday wouldn't surprise in the least.
