First time in his career that Tiger has gone backwards following a third round in a major started in, or with a share of, the lead. Suggests to me he's still not back, particularly with the putter. Got an opportunity for a charge today but I believe he has never, or almost never, won a major from behind on Sunday.

Like that Colsaerts guy, and the fan who yelled "nice lay up" on 7.

Think Furyk and McDowell will be hard to catch today, and I would be shocked if both go backwards. Unless the USGA totally changes the course again today by drying things out, or the wind blowing (which is infrequent at Olympic) I am guessing it's going to take an under par score to win.

Which would suggest Tiger needs to shoot 5 under or better, which means he can forget about hitting a long iron off of 6 or so tees. I am guessing the USGA plays 16 short enough that the long hitters can get there, so there will be opportunities (16, 17, 18) at the end of the round if Tiger can get through 15 holes 2 or 3 under.

If John Peterson wins, we riot.

That's why I will never live in California. Too many wackos.

Patrick Cantlay turned professional. No reason to stay in school at this point

Winning a US Amateur might have been one reason to not declare for another 6 weeks.

Tiger is the odds favorite for the Brittish Open. As I told everyone who would listen, the first 9 holes of the 3rd round is a great predictor of Tigers success.

His game is getting better, but probably not good enough for a BO win.

Went three out of the four days. Course played really tough, amazing what they can do there. I believe my low at Olympic was a 76, I don't think I would have broken 100 from what I saw.

That Tiger is tough to beat if he's on for 54 holes? He doesn't come from behind in majors, nor does he lose if he has the lead. He's most likely to lose if he falters early in the 3rd round.

Nothing cryptic there...or is there???

Ahh, makes total sense now, I just didn't get it at first.

I believe they said (or I read) that this is the first time in history Tiger went backwards during round 3 of a major in which he held the lead after 2 rounds.

Which would suggest he is just as tough to beat if he is on for 36 holes.

Or was anyway.

Maybe, I don't know for certain. I do know that every since his Ex went all Rambo on his SUV, the make-or-break period seems to exactly where he now falls apart. Early 3rd round.

No way I would bet against him going into the final round with a share of the lead, but I no longer have enough confidence to bet on him going into round 3.

Agreed, see for reference posts 18 and 19 in this thread, I wouldn't bet on him going into the 4th w/a lead unless I was getting odds and 5 years ago I wouldn't have bet against him going into the 4th w/a lead unless I was getting odds.

Usually when pros lose their putting and chipping it's because they are hitting the bottle a little too much, or a little more than they used to. When they lose their long games it's either because their body is breaking down or they changed equipment for $$$ it didn't work out and they lost their confidence. Or sometimes it can be a single terrible round (Ian Baker Finch and myself ) that just wrecks them mentally.

With Tiger you have the new swing thing and he has brought his short game back from the abyss (it's location last season and the one before). Plus you never say never with Tiger.

But I am fairly confident he will simply be one of the better players on tour, from now until he hangs it up, not the 9 wins and multiple majors per year guy he used to be. Three years ago I would have said no way Jack's major record stands, now I am not so sure.

To get to your post earlier in this thread that I reference above, the major winners since that post have been McIlroy, Clarke, Bradley, Bubba, and Simpson. The Master's winner last year was Schwartzel. Lotta young blood.
