It's hilarious that Lavin is basically recruiting circles around Howland. As I said, keep an eye on both programs over the next three seasons. St. John's will be the better of the two.

1) Pelle will never play a game in MSG, he won't qualify or make it to NYC.

2) Johnnies have 9 seniors this year, they have all the playing time in the world to offer their recruits.

Likely. UCLA never even bothered to offer him a scholarship

And Pelle never seriously considered them. He wanted to play for a winner.

If that was the case he wouldn't of gone to St. John's.

Let's see who wins more games over the next three seasons, St. John's or UCLA.

Not too many PF/Center types will consider UCLA over the next year or two:

Josh Smith - Frosh
Stover - Redshirt frosh
Reeves Nelson - soph
Brendan Lane - soph
David Wear - frosh transfer
Travis Wear - frosh transfer

They'll have 4 sophs, and 2 juniors to man the 2 positions for the '11-'12 season.

Pelle's final 2 included Udub. Probably a big loss for them.

Smith -- two and done
Stover -- scrub
Nelson -- best Bruin frontcourt player
Lane -- scrub
Wears -- scrubs

Gonna be fun watching the S.S. Howland sink over the next few years.

You're sure reaching. St John's might win more games this coming season, as Lavin inherited 9 seniors on the squad. After that, he'll have lots of young guys on the team, playing against the tough Big East squads.

Here's a sidenote. UCLA will be playing CSUN tomorrow to kick off the year. Ten years ago this month, CSUN registered the biggest win in the program's history, pulling off a 78-74 victory at Pauley against the Lavin coached UCLA squad, which happened to include at least 4 NBA players (playing RIGHT NOW):

Dan Gadzuric
Jsaon Kapono
Matt Barnes
Earl Watson

Other members of the squad included Ray Young, Jaron Rush, and the like.

Yeah, we really miss Lavin. That loss to CSUN was a watershed moment, when people started getting on his case about inconsistent play, lack of player development, losing to inferior teams regularly, etc, etc. Two seasons later, he was gone.

Flip just covered it. I just am not sure where Lavin learned to coach since he wasn't spending his free time learning how to, but announcing BB Games

Other than Smith, I think Lane and Stover are the best of the rest

Getting this thing back to the original topic, Pelle going to St John's is a big blow to the Fuskies.
