I wonder how this will change our defensive performance next season... There will probably be some growing pains with our lack of depth and change of scheme but watching the D last year was so frustrating. Can't imagine them as bad as last season.

Is there any reason to take everything said in that article as the undoubted truth though? I mean he honestly went through interview processes for other coaching jobs and they all told him "well although you're interviewing for this job and obviously you're interested, we don't think you'd really leave Morgantown, so we're not going to hire you?"

I just don't buy that one bit...

I give Casteel 2 years though.

I've seen a lot of people here who want Casteel at AZ, and if he's RR's "guy" then I can understand that, but has WV ever had a dominant defense? This year they're ranked 27 in total defense (340 ypg) and 63rd in scoring defense (26.3 ppg). I didn't check other years. I'm sure some (or probably a lot) of that has to do with the type of offense WV runs (time and number of possessions, etc.). I guess I would expect higher defensive rankings from a DC that is a HC candidate. That's kind of going out on a limb for a school to hire a defense guy for a HC position who has not had dominant defensive teams (or at least stats), isn't it?

That's not what the article said. It said he believed he wasn't considered for other options (ie, not invited to interview) because schools felt he wouldn't leave WVA. Any school that actually interviewed him wouldn't fit that description.
