A lot of the foibles of the read option are just formations, history and other programs we're debating right now.

We really don't know how Rodriguez and Scott are going to attack defenses in their new offense until it shows on the field of an actual game.

It took Oregon almost a decade, multiple coaches and boatloads of Nike money to get to the high-octane level the Duck O is right now.

RR won't get to that level next year, much less overnight with Scott. Plays are going to break down, and hopefully Scott will understand what to do when that happens--not risk injury or force passes for INTs like Matt did in his younger days.

Look, this is Arizona football we're all talking about. We don't have amazing tradition or history. Haven't had a 9 win season in years. So whatever little "hints" and negative comments you put out there, don't scare me, nor should they scare anybody else. I've seen it all with Arizona football. Enough with your negativity! I don't know you, but I do know who TucsonPaint is, as I have seen him post on an Arizona HS board for a long time.

Mike Stoops is gone. Mike Stoops took Arizona to three straight bowl games, and maybe a possible 4th if he were able to finish out last season. STILL, that would no have been enough for me to keep him. I'm not at all shocked by your 'wait and see' approach with Coach Rodriguez, but you are taking to far. You are not playing wait and see anymore; you are essentially crowning his hire a complete disaster and the eventual downfall of the University of Arizona's football program. I don't know what Greg Byrne has said to you to make you so sour, but get the hell over it.

I am not crowing about how Rich Rodriguez and saying he will be the savior and resurrect UA into Rose Bowl contenders every year. I am also not jumping to conclusions about how he is the next John Mackovic. You know, there IS a middle ground you can play. Rich Rodriguez is 0-0 at Arizona, and so far has built deep roots into the Arizona High School football coaches fraternity (don't be surprised to see Patrick Joseph become a Wildcat sooner than later). That fact alone has made him a better embassador for not only UA's football program, but the University as a whole, than Mike Stoops ever was.

Stoops got Hall, Fisher, Kadeem and Brooks Reed - why do you think marginal Phoenix talent is so great?

I'd take Fresno over Phoenix nine years out of ten and could care less about stealing anyone from ASU.

And as far as the five stars from Phoenix - Arizona and ASU are going to have to get to that nine win level regardless of any roots they are putting down.

West Virgina was in a Mountain West like conference when Va Tech left and their OOC scheduling was extremly weak.

Wasn't there a nice rumor going around that Mike Stoops recruiting started and focused on "What did the other schools show you?"

Lets be honest, he recruited as hard as he interviewed coaches.

Arizona Wins - Because its Mike Stoops players, RR had nothing to do with it.
Arizona Loses - Because RR is the head coach, we suck, I told you so.
Arizona good recruiting - Players are overrated and will suck, it was because of the facilities.

I have not dismissed his time at Michigan. I don't care what he accomplished at WVU. I care about what he does at UA. It is too early to make an assessment one way or the other. I have not wavered from my 'wait and see' approach. Some here, I agree, are overly excited about the hire and think UA will be instant BCS bowl contenders. I think that is unrealistic. What I see in Rich Rodriguez is his innate ability to connect with the community. Basketball has reigned king in Tucson for a long time, and I truly believe that Rodriguez wants to build this football program to heights and exposure it has never seen before. The vision, as a whole, is there. Now all the UA needs is execution on this overhaul on the football program.

Mike Stoops did great things for the University of Arizona. I do not agree with mid season firings and wish Stoops' exit could have been smoother. If anything, he should have been let go after the Alamo Bowl. Greg Byrne, like Rodriguez, wants to make his stamp in Tucson and bring the football team to Nat'l Championship contenders. Whether that happens or not will remain to be seen.... however it became apparent that Coach Stoops had topped out as a coach and became unable to replace important asst. coaches such as Dykes and Mark Stoops. Cannot blame Akina on him, but handing the reigns over to Littrell was a complete bust of a move.

I guess what irks me the most is that you have no rhyme or reason to be so negative about this hire (and if you do, you have not made the reason public, which I can respect). Everything I have heard from the AD is that Rodriguez has brought a huge facelift to the program, and works tireless hours to improve our University as a whole. Maybe he is harsh with his words about the progression of the team in public, but so is UA's beloved Head basketball coach Sean Miller. The players are responding well, it seems, and I have some pretty high hopes for Rich Rod and co. first year (6-8 wins).
