I think we can all agree that Cal and USC are losses. Oregon could be a win, but being that it is in Eugene and they finally got a big win (in terms of it being an exciting game at least) they'll be flying high. Not to mention that the UCLA loss has to be the most demoralizing since we didn't lose by just a few lucky breaks like in the Wisconsin and Washington State games. That leaves Oregon State, Washington, and Arizona State. Oregon State is a better team than us, and I imagine that it will depend mostly on the mindset after the Cal game. If we get beat by 70 against Cal, I don't see how they could come back the next week and beat OSU. Washington is probably the very worst team in the Pac-10 and I'm confident that we'll at least have that game. And you never know what happens with ASU.

So, realistically, we should definitely win at least one more game, but I can't see winning more than 3. A 3-8 finish seems almost immenent (one more sure win, one upset where the breaks will finally go our way).

Play non-ranked teams before Pac-Ten opener!

The UofA should play at least two non-ranked teams BEFORE they begin Pac-Ten play. Just so they can get their confidence and timimg down. Doesn't the administration remember the Penn State fiasco. Stop schedualing nationally ranked teams when the program is not there yet.

Kansas has their patty cake schedule. Now that they are a yearly contender, they are peanalized for having it. The UofA is not a contender yet!

I know that San Diego State bailed on the UofA but that gives them an opening for Army, San Jose State, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Akron, Indiana, Ivy league teams, Idaho State, Toledo, Tulsa, Ohio University, and Patriot League teams. They count as a D1 win too. Some of these Midwest or Eastern teams would love to come out West to play in the sun.

The UofA needs to give a team a good "Beat Down" early in the season so that they develope a taste for blood. Also, they should stay away from Texas teams as the players always seem to get up for the game to prove that they should have been the one offered the UofA scholarship. THe UofA ends up with more injuries than they can tolerate and then starts whining about depth chart. The UofA is beat up before Pac-Ten play begins.

Playing NAU is not the answer because the guys may know or have played with a few of the players and may not have the stomach to twist the knife and push deeper into the wound.

FootballJunkie, isn't SJSU thinking of dropping out of Div 1?

I guess another question would be, if the Cats do go 1-10, can the season be called a success? I think so, if the "never give up" attitude prevails through the year. One thing about the UCLA game, some of our players really suck and should not be in D1, but they never gave up, and tried to make it a game until the end.

Merkin, I agree with you.

Even if UA goes 1-10 - which looks pretty damn likely right about now, unfortunately - I still feel good about the program. It's extremely obvious that improvements have been made and that a new attitude encompasses everyone within the program. I like that certain people are no longer with the program because they couldn't handle it, and I like that it's the Stoops Way or No Way, too.

Bottom line is how do you get disappointed with a team that has five percent of its roster classified as "talented" and the remaining 95% as soon-to-be-replaced? New recruits with more skill are needed and that's it.

PS: It's not going to be a big year wins-wise next season either. It takes a lot longer for football programs to get good than it does basketball because true freshmen so rarely make big impacts.

The first game in 2005 is at Utah. We all might want to shoot for the second game, home against NAU. Actually, 2005 has an incredibly brutal beginning.

Quote:
9-3 @ Utah
9-10 Northern Arizona
9-17 Purdue
10-1 @ California
10-8 @ Southern California
10-15 Stanford
10-22 Oregon
10-29 @ Oregon State
11-5 UCLA
11-12 Washington
11-19 @ Arizona State
Even with improvement and the team playing very hard, it's not difficult to imagine another 1-4 or 2-3 start.

Haha, more like 6-5 and 7-4. I predicted 4-7 and got yelled at and being too pessimistic and not much of a fan.

I'm still not giving up on the season. I am a homer, I'm just not stupid enough to make absolute predictions (or to bet on games). It is a long season and a lot of things can happen. If we continue to be in games week in and week out, it would actually be pretty hard to lose them all.

Have to agree. The season is not over, actually 4 w's was a good call. Wash St. and Wisc. shoulda coulda... One more would make it 4.. and then there's that big upset game coming.. that will top off the season. Cal USC ASU Ore.. who's to say..

Then UA fans will talk about the 2 or 3 win season, but what a huge win it was..
Just thoughts.. ha..

Both oregon schools are very beatable. ASU is beatable. Cal is now beatable since they have one WR left and teams will easily put 8 in the box to stop their run. Washington is beyond awful. USC UA is not going to beat but everyone else is beatable.

Chris, do you honestly think there are five more winnable games on the schedule?

Yeah, every game save the USC game is winnable. This is the Pac-10 and every team, even USC, has holes. Cal now has bigger holes than before with one proven healthy WR. Oregon and Oregon State are both so up and down I could see UA beating either team or getting blown out by either team. Washington is just atrociously bad like UA was last year and the ASU game is always a toss up, no matter the records.
