I second your thoughts.
Did you check out the article in the Tucson Citizen??? I think we have more than a small chance. I wouldn't say we are leading for his services, but we are definitely in the mix. He said the following are important to him: comfort w/ the coaches, academics, playing time and making an immediate impact. Obviously Stanford had the edge in academics, but we've got to be at or near the top in every other criteria he laid out. I give us a 35% shot at landing his services. He can come here and be the cornerstone of a Stoops defense that has already started to make a name for itself and will only improve w/ his contribution. He has a bunch of great options...I hope he chooses the CATS. Bear Down Ekom |

Academics can only get you so far. Personal drive is what takes you the rest of the way. Arizona is an excellent academic institution for those who take advantage of the opportunities it presents. Simply take a look out our alumni and see where they gone since college. Heck, even I am incredibly lucky to have had the opportunities I've had in college and they've done a great job of positioning me where I am today.
For Ekom, playing for perhaps the best defensive mind in college football today, with a proven record for putting players into the NFL, is only an added bonus. Look at our D-line tradition too... Rob Waldrip and Teddy are a couple names that immediately pop into mind. |

The sports page headline in the Citizen was awesome. Moredich did a nice job with the article and this is just an example of how much noteriety Ekom would get here at UA. I doubt that he would ever get that kind of attention at any of the other contending schools. No doubt that Stanford has the edge academically but UA is very well respected and Eller School of Business is one of the best in the nation.
Coach Stoops is the right guy for him to play for to get to the next level. I am hoping we will defy the odds and land Ekom this weekend. Ekom would be a cornerstone for our program and remembered for years to come ala Tedy Bruschi of the Desert Swarm era. I am hoping that the opportuntiy to play close to home in front of family and friends will be the advantage that puts us over the top. I thought the article/photo was awesome and would doubt that many recruits in the nation get that kind of attention. Keeping my fingers crossed! |

Ekom, please read the previous four posts, but more importantly, with your skills, you will be hiring savy business people to handle your millions once Stoops & Co. fine tune you for the NFL. 100 sacks for us in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah, the women of Arizona have and will always be smoking hot. 84 to 88 was a bounty...I can only imagine the product there now!!!

IMO the UofA's chances are 50-50.
I think that Ekom Udofia probably wants to talk to other top players at the Army All star game to get their take on his decision before he finally commits to the school of his choice. He'll get a chance to talk to Daniel Borg, an academically gifted student recruited by Notre Dame and Northwestern, who chose UofA because it had the top program in his major. Also, he'll get to speak to Brandon Tatum, another top recruit, who chose UofA. He'll also get a chance to talk with recruits that have committed to USC. USC or Stanford would seem to have the lead at this point for his services but there is a slight chance that Pete Carol will leave for the San Francisco 49ers, they are talking to him now, and Walt Harris may not have completed his staff at Stanford. If Pete Carol doesn't leave this year, there is the possibility that Carol, or Norm Chow, would leave for the NFL next year if USC has another solid season. UofA has a stable coaching situation. Also, with the UofA's Business School in the mix, UofA may possibly have a slight edge if he is looking at academics. In the realm of Business Schools, I'm not exactly sure which Business school stacks up better, the UofA, Stanford, or USC. I do think that the Eller College of Business is well regarded in the West. If he is going to major in Management Information Systems (MIS) Arizona should be his choice. Does anyone know what his concentration in Business will be (Accounting, MIS, Management, etc.)? |

Per the U.S. News and World Report 2005 edition Best business programs between these 3 schools are: (not just in the west) 9. USC Marshall 20. UA Eller (tied with 4 other schools) Stanford is not listed among the top 45 schools for business. Eller's MIS program is no. 3 in the nation (tied with Texas) Marshall's accounting program is no. 5.

Stanford does not have an undergraduate business school, only a graduate school in business.
