This message is for you

Just watched the Wade interview and realized how tragic the whole thing was. It also made me wonder "How many other students are carrying guns around ? He can't be the only one at UofA or ASU carrying a gun". If you do carry a gun, even if only occasionally, this message is for you:

By carrying a gun around, you are more likely to hurt someone you love or use it in a fit of rage and ruin your own life than you are to protect yourself from someone who will harm you. You are on the wrong side of some losing odds that has to do with your life and its future. Be wise and think about that the next time you carry it for protection.

Thats all - God Bless !

Dude, sometimes that is easier said than done.

I work in an area that sometimes has a lot of illegal alien traffic, and/or human smugglers.

Sometimes I have to check the warehouse at odd hours. (I store temperature sensitive fruits and vegetables)

I feel allot safer carrying a firearm in those instances.

I agree w/you 100%. You would be amazed at how many persons carry guns in their vehicles.

Like the saying goes guns dont kill people the one pulling the trigger does. I carry a firearm and am licenesed to do so. My uncles have been taking me to shooting ranges since i was 8. As i am a strong advocate in the right to bare arms I am also a strong advocate of tighter control on the purchase of a gun. If you wanna buy a gun need to pass some firearm courses. It would very well help idiots such as Wade. There is no way to not know if a gun is loaded. You know theres a clip in there and you had to have put the clip in there. If he indeed did not know the then a class would have taught him to pop the chamber. All in all the gun didnt kill him Wade being an utter idiot did. 18 years since i held my first gun and i have never accidently shot anyone.

I have always said when that weapon climbs out of the drawer or off the shelf by itself, loads itself, and pulls the trigger by itself then they can have my weapons!!

This thread probably needs to be moved to the Political forum.

Gato, be careful bud. I understand your concern, and agree with you, but studies have shown that if the perp has a gun, and you have a gun, the citizen will normally say something like "stop right there, hold it" or whatever, the perp normally responds with "BANG".

Also, for gun owners, please take care of your guns. I remember Bonney had some by his nightstand, and if a burglar broke into his house when he wasn't there, those guns would be immediately sent to the criminal community. Also, as Wade helped prove, if your gun is used to shoot someone, the odds it being used on someone you know is 35 to 1, either through in accident, anger, suicide or whatever.

Take care of your gun.

Re: Guns

Wake up people. Alcohol kills thousands more each year than guns. Yes, that's right the beverages we all love are much more deadly than those dreaded guns we all hear about on tv. I have been around guns all my life and have a concealed carry weapons permit. My dad took me shooting when I was 8 years old and nobody in my family has ever been hurt from a firearm. Not even close, because guns aren't the problem, PEOPLE are the problem. If you follow the proper safety rules around firearms and they are treated with respect nobody will get hurt.

By the way you are more likely to get struck by lightening twice in the same year than shot by a firearm on accident. Kind of makes you think doesn't it.

Lancer, I have no problem with reasonably intelligent trained people having guns. Just like with alcohol, it's the ones that can't handle them are the problem. That's why some religions (Baptists, Mormons) ban alcohol for all the members. Should we ban guns for everyone? Certainly not, but I just don't want loons with guns. I don't remember the numbers anymore, but are about 50 murders with guns per year in Tucson. How many people in Tucson were killed by lightning last year? Obv your family is very well trained in the use of guns, just like my family. I don't have any weapons any more since I have children, but I will certainly stand up for your right to have yours. It is just how do we keep guns out of the hands of people who aren't trained, and aren't responsible?

The Motor City Madman goes a little ballistic. Nice saying property rights are more important than human rights, if someone steals your VCR, kill him.

Also learning some techniques from the LDS, recruit new members and only hang out with people with the same beliefs as you.

Nugent urges NRA members to recruit other gun owners
April 16, 2005, 8:52 PM

HOUSTON (AP) -- Rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent urged National Rifle Association members Saturday to be "hardcore, radical extremists demanding the right to self defense" and to work daily to recruit new members.

Speaking at the group's annual convention in Houston, Nugent said the NRA's current record-high membership of 4 million was nothing to get excited about. He said each NRA member should try to enroll 10 new members over the next year.

"Let's next year sit here and say, 'Holy smokes, the NRA has 40 million members now,"' he said, adding NRA members should only associate with other members. "No one is allowed at our barbecues unless they are an NRA member. Do that in your life."

Nugent, who walked onto the stage with a large assault weapon in each hand, said those who support gun control aren't the enemy.

"They are a joke," he said. "Our enemy is the gun owners that don't belong to the NRA."

He said the NRA needs to become a more powerful political force and encouraged members to write letters to newspaper editors, teach about guns and hunting at their children's school and recruit other gun owners.

"The whole world sucks but America sucks less," he said to laughter and applause. "And we can eliminate that sucking sound altogether if we all would actually be hardcore, radical extremists, hardcore radical extremists, demanding the right to self defense."

Nugent and his family moved to Crawford, Texas, from Michigan about two years ago. President Bush's ranch also is in Crawford.

The NRA has worked to elect Republican lawmakers who support its efforts to limit lawsuits seeking damages against gun manufacturers and distributors and to ensure a ban on assault weapons isn't resurrected.

Among them is U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugarland, who was set to deliver the convention's keynote speech Saturday night.

Nugent also sang and played a guitar painted with red and white stripes for the crowd at Houston's downtown convention center.

He drew the most cheers when he told gun owners they should never give up their right to bear arms and should use their guns to protect themselves if needed.

"Remember the Alamo! Shoot 'em!" he screamed to applause. "To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun and when they attack you, shoot 'em."

Muffley

I agree that there is a serious issue with the storage/handling/education of firearms in this country with some people. I think people should have to take a hunter's safety course and probably more than that to purchase a firearm. My exception to the start of this thread is that there are a a lot larger issues in our society than the private ownership of firearms. I quoted alcohol earlier in this article because a few years ago (I don't know if it is still true since I haven't done any research on it lately) alcohol related car accidents was the single largest cause of death for men between the age of 18 and 25. That to me is huge, but yet there are a few (relatively) bad apples around guns and they get a horrible reputation with people wanting to ban them. A few years ago a man in Japan went into an Elementary school and killed 8 kids and wounded over 2 dozen with a knife. Should we ban knives next?

Ted Nugent is going to Hell. He does understand that, right?

For those who hate guns. Don't own one. In fact, show you stance by placing a big sign on your house saying "This home is NOT protected by a gun"

Honestly, I don't own one. Only shot a couple times with a buddy (at a range). While I think there should be mandatory classes, waiting period, etc., anyone suggesting a ban is living in an idealistic world. If there is a ban, the bad guys will still have the guns, but the good citizens will follow the law. That is SCARY.

yes, but beer never accidentally opens up and kills someone's 6-year-old little brother.
