Was Bill Snyder coaching for the short term? I'm not sure I get that comment. Seems to me he was a KSU lifer.
It isn't the quality of player, it is the quality of person. Plus I believe he has takena year off. If he could get his head right obviously he is a good player

These two guys are (and correct me if I'm wrong) two of the most elite at their positions in the JC ranks, and play at a position where we need immediate help.

I understand and agree with not wanting to build with tons of JC guys, but these two seem like a great match. They are not being brought in to provide two deep depth...they are being brought in to contend for starting spots as well as a good amount of PT right away. Nagata @ Oregon gives a real good example of what the right kind of JC DL guys can do.

Please. There's no way he didn't know the kid got his diploma out of a vending machine. Everyone knew out of high school the kid was a complete f-up. He went to Venice High, and never even got a sniff from 'SC or UCLA despite being a terrific talent.

Bill, I hear you, but you're asking for trouble when getting into bed with these kids, I'm telling you...NB is right.

Ngata came to Oregon out of high school. I don't know where you guys are getting your JC info.

Really? Then I'd think there are a lot of people who would have a lot of trouble rooting for their respective teams. You have to compartmentalize that crap up to a point. As long as he can be eligible to play and isn't in the business of breaking laws . . .

I still believe Stoops should be building this program like he's sticking around (four year kids) as opposed to what they taught him at K-State.
I think your off the mark on this one TucsonDon. College isn't as easy to complete as when you and others of you generation went to school. I notice more nutty professors and out of touch codgers even at Arizona. Comming from a CA JC Gabe has have his AA to qualify for admission to Arizona. He probably knows if he's going to get it because classes end mid December. Some kids don't qualify for Pac-10 or D1 college because of their HS grades even if they were the top athlete in the land. There is something called a "Clearing house" which you may not have had to deal with in your time. Many athletes also have "issues" and the JC route is a great way for them to go sometimes. No one should be put down for going the JC route. Remember, God made everyone different and some need JC to polish up weak areas possibly in the classroom or on the FB field. JC is not all that bad as you are in classes with 25-40 students and not in lecture halls of 75-150 students for entry level classes.

Arizona's Ricky Parker went to ASU and ran into problems with his roommate. He was promptly kicked off the ASU team and labeled a "Bad Apple". He went to a JC to prove to everyone that he was a good student, a good football player, and a good teammate. Ricky earned the right to be given a second chance at good colleges like Arizona by getting good grades, and showing that problems with the ASU Cro-Magnon coaches and Neanderthal teammates in the past were behind him. Personally, I don't see how he could stand all the drool around the athletic facilities. So far it looks like things are going alright with him at Arizona.

All right, I mean I respect your opinion and that's fine.

As a side note, didn't Ricky Parker try and stab his roommate at ASU?

After he was attacked, sucker punched, and beaten up from behind for not doing his share of chores (Cleaning, dishwashing). Ricky said he had the knife to protect himself when he went back to the apartment to get his things.

I'm not sure if he actually stabbed anyone though. Whatever the case, brandishing a knife and threatening your roommates in front of police officers was a stupid move.

That's funny, I thought an idiot was someone who didn't know the most basic rules of grammar.

That is why Immel is front and center on this one. Grammar police now, Immel? Really?

OU has had its share of JC recruits and they seem to be doing fine. I believe a certain someone on this thread is acting the "know it all" once again. If a JC player can provide immediate help in the necessary spots then I don't see anything wrong with that.

Perhaps that is why Stoops, Bob and Mike, have coaching jobs at D1 schools and the few *****ing about taking JC players on this board are on this board *****ing about said coach(es) taking JC players and not coaching... anything.

Guys JUCO guys are the same as high school kids, a little less than half of them despite their rating wind up being good players. JUCOs tend to have more problems with academics, but once they are cleared then that issue is negated. If we land five JUCO guys this year and only two of them wind up being good and starting right away then it is completely worth it. The reasons it is so important to recruit JUCO defensive and offensive linemen is that we need help next season. We are still recruiting both sides of the ball in the high school ranks as well, but those kids are going to develop next season whereas a JUCO would have the shot to compete right away which is what we need. Landing a five star offensive linemen would be great for the future, but probably wouldnt be as good as landing a stud three star JUCO kid for next season. This staff emphasizes high schoolers, but JUCO kids help immediately and the ones that work out are worth it.

How is that different from giving a high school player a scholarship and him not qualifying (like that lineman from Arizona)?

Also, if Gabe Long came in at the semester, wouldn't his scholarship go against last years number, not this years? So I guess Gabe Long would be replacing Vickers? Right or Wrong?
