Recruiting Roundup So Far...

Assuming we have 4 mid-year JC scholarships to give, as well as 25 "2006" scholies, here is how things are shaping up...

JC Mid-Year Transfers (4 scholarships)

*****Gabe Long, DT
*****Louis Holmes, DE
*** Nate Ness, S

*** James Tretheway, OL

2005 Recruits (25 scholarships)

***Tyler Lyon, QB
***Earl Mitchell, FB
***Brooks Reed, FB
****Derke Robinson, RB
***DeLaShaun Dean, WR
***Terrell Reese, WR
***Cody Anderson, TE
****AJ Simmons, TE
***Colin Baxter, OL
***Cory Elmore, OL

*** Ricky Elmore, DE
*** Glyndon Bolasky, S
***Cameron Nelson, S
****Mike Turner, CB

We have 2 other "soft commits"
** DeMarcus Love, OL
***Terrell Turner, WR

That would leave 9 open scholarships... here is my wish list, in order of preference
****Devin Ross CB
****Shareece Wright, CB
****Jamere Holland, WR
****Jovon Hayes, OL
****Terrance Austin, WR
****Alex Parsons, DL
****Derrick Hill, DL
***Devin Johnson, LB
??? Punter

Backfill Candidates include
***Aaron Straiten, WR
***Travon Patterson, WR
***Conan Amituani, DL
**DeAndre Reed, DE

Some unbelievable recruiting victories, but some tough battles ahead. Looks like we may not run out of scholarships, after all!

Bearing down on closing out strong and going after LB's, RB's, and a kicker in the class of 2007!

Not to be picky, but what I don't understand is how UCLA is still ahead of us in the team rankings. We have 18 commits, they have 19. We each have the same number of four star commits. The only difference is that we have 2 more five star commits than them and they have 3 more three star commits than us. My math isn't great, but how do 3 three star commits become more valuable than 2 five star commits. I'm assuming that is a number of bodies thing and that since they still have one commit more than us they get the edge, but the rankings seem flawed. I wonder if it could be the JC factor, we have 4 JC commits and they have none. Either way, something seems fishy with the Scout rankings.

You're right it seems kind of odd. Not being into math either maybe one of the ranking experts can give us some clarification on this. It seems that Arizona has better numbers than UCLA but who knows. What I do know is the Bruins will always remember coming down to Tucson to play at Arizona Stadium and we know what happened in that one.

After it all shakes out it'll be interesting to see where Arizona and UCLA wind up on Team Recruiting Rankings.

What's Gabe Long's story? I keep hearing he's committed but don't see him on this site's committment list. Usually they're posted immediately. Is he not committed but anticipated to or has he just been left off the list?

Also, a post above shows him as a 5-star DT. I assume this is true?

Thanks!

It's been addressed in a few other threads. But rivals has him in the '05 list. I've heard that Josh is currently trying to get them to put him on this list. And yes he is a 5*DT

Somebody should let Rivals know that we are going to be referring to Scout's recruiting rankings from here on out (and I'm sure the new services will, as well) because they are more accurate. If Rivals won't acknowledge Long as being a part of this class, then why would we use their inaccurate rankings?

I dissagree. I think scout.com fluffs their rankings in order to get more subscribers.

DC,

Ness is a Rivals 3* and a Scout 4*

LL,

Reed is has been bumped up to a 3* by both services. And the UA is in the mix for Ross who is a Scout 5*. And UA commits Reese and Dean are also 4* recruits on Scout!!!

Bearing Down on Loving Every Minute of It

I'm not talking about the ratings of the recruits, but the fact that they are including a 5* recruit that Rivals will not include in our commit list.

Besides, if all of the recruits have ratings inflation, then what difference does it make? It's all about relative rankings, anyway.

No No i think it is right but it will go up for a couple of reasons

1) the recruits who have commited see whats happening with the signing of louis holmes and gabe long they see the arizona program is serious about winning. U of A is like a powder keg and its time to blow

2) i think we will get our last 5 star but it is a toss up because fontenot and cason will just be jr's next season oregon secondary will be depleted he can go there and compete his freshman year.. lets wait and see.

Can someone explain how we have more recruits, a higher average star per recruit, and more five stars, yet LSU and UCLA are ranked ahead of us? How is LSU ranked so high, according to those numbers they should be around 15 not 6
