Any Frisbee Golf Players?

I've started messing around with frisbee golf and have found it to be a blast.

I started playing with a standard freestyle tournament frisbee and was pretty good, although lacked major distance on my drives. But very good in wooded situations where curved shots are the key.

A friend and I just picked up a few of the frisbee golf discs and started trying them out today. Talk about reinventing the wheel. It took me about 9 holes before I started to get the hang of the golf discs at all. But once I started figuring them out, suddenly I could get a lot more distance on shots.

I was just browsing the Innova site seeing what all the different discs actually do. They offer a crazy amount of discs to choose from, and it's hysterical what their flight descriptions are.

Anyway, I think I like the wooded courses the best, where you really have to pick your lines through the trees. The open fairway courses, like the one I played today, seem more about just chucking the hell out of the discs, rather than working them around the course.

Wondered if there are any other disc golf players on the board?

It's DISC GOLF what the hell is frisbee golf?

I played for awhile, but have stopped while surgery because obviously I can't twist and stuff.

However, I compete intournaments. I use that word loosely. Because I suck at it.

I did however finally pick up my own set of discs, which is helpful.

Ive played on three courses in Arizona. Two in Tucson, one which is on a landfill, and hard as hell but fun. The other one was on a playground, but cactus very close, so if you have a bad throw, have fun looking for it.

The one here in Phoenix at conocido park, is rather dull, few trees here and there, but nothing super.

I hear there's a monster one up in Northern Arizona that I want to try...

The game is a blast. There are a few courses in Columbus, but I prefer to play it around town. I even have my own #3 driver.

Yes that's saguaros on it with desert scenery.

I used to play this game before anyone had ever heard of it (circa 1988). With a regular frisbee and trees around town that we would mark as holes. I did the same thing with tennis ball golf. Pick out a marker like an electric pole or tree, and use a driver to hit a tennis ball. If you hit it correctly, it goes. I should of put a patent on it way back in the day.

Bison,

Where did you like to play in NoVa...?

Burke, Pohick, Bluemont?

Not too hard to do, but I found this site that lists disc golf courses all over the country. http://www.pdga.com/course/index.php

I love cheap sports that you can play for free with little to no hassle. Disc golf is definitely on that list. Fun stuff.

WoW,

I think you were a decade late. Burke Lake put in a disc golf course in 1979...

Disc Golf is as old as me?

I never got to play in VA I had friends who did it all the time, always invited me but was always too busy.

I play a LOT here in Arizona, My goal is to touch all of the courses.

There is a link for all arizona courses as well.

I love the landfill one in tucson. It may smell fishy and attract a lot of homeless, but the course is difficult as all out.

No kidding, cheap as hell, I even bought the discs which were $60 for 5. because I love the game, the only negative is that it's free for all, literally.

But I never heard of it in 1988.

I thought the same thing when I created the art of bushdiving, and seen it popularized by Bam Margera 20 years later.

When I come to DC we'll play our own course around the White House.

Ha, great videos Walk-on. Video tape sure made people do funny things. Too bad they are buried in this thread, they should be shared.

Here is a disc course walking distance to my house. 27 holes.

Where are the courses in Tucson? My brother and I were at Target 2 years ago and they they set of 3 discs (driver, mid range, and putters) on sale for 75%, we both picked up a set, but never actually played. Now that it is cooling off I am ready. Any help on finding a course?

there's a great 27 hole course in the northern philly suburbs we used to frequent. It's a state park and the course is heavily wooded. Just a nice place to hang out anyway. Looks similar to the above but its more natural forest and trails, no planted grass. We haven't found somewhere in the boston area yet, but we will have to soon...

There's two in Tucson, http://www.azdiscgolf.com/tucson.php

Groves Park is best for beginners, as the holes are shorter, however on 3-4 "holes" if you let the disc fly and it catches wind, you could be digging through cacti to find your discs.

Santa Cruz River Park, is actually on a landfill, lots of challenge, some long holes, lots of "trees" if you can call them that to provide challenge, only negative is there's homeless in the area and they WILL bother you.

I shot a 1 over today on the Burke Lake course. I should have been about 6 under but I grazed too many putts off the pins.

This is only the fourth time I've been out, so I'm still getting used to the discs. I felt like I was getting dialed in towards the end, and birdied 3 out of the last 4 holes to close strong.

I play with Innova discs. At the moment I've only got 4, but I'm ordering the real set.

Right now I play:

Driver - Valkyrie
Fairway - Leopard
Utility - Stingray
Putter - Aviar

I'm adding from the Star Line,

Driver - Wraith
Fairway - TL
Utility - Roc
Approach - Aero

There were a lot of George Mason students on the course today. I was playing behind one guy who had a nice collection of the Championship line discs. I was shocked by how much distance he could get off the tee. His shots never got more than 20' off the ground, but he was easily reaching the par 4 pins in one shot.
