At Cal State schools, up to 8 percent of the system's new undergraduates each year may be special admits.

Here at Poly, the athletic department handles their own admissions, scholarship athletes do not go through the normal admission process. Since truthfully speaking, most would not make it. Very few posters here would either. 20,000 applications for 3,000 spots? Athletes still have to meet the minimum CSU requirements though.

Getting in is one thing, the hardest part is trying to compete in the classroom with real students. Some schools it's not really important, UA for one since getting accepted to Arizona is rather easy. Furd, Cal, UCLA, not so easy.

You would think this would shut the Bruins up about " he didn't go here because of the academic requirements" but it wont.

I found these two short paragraphs most interesting:

Quote:
Schools such as Air Force, Colorado State and UCSD say if applicants don't meet their standards, they are not admitted, prized recruits or not.

“All of our students, including athletes, meet at least the minimum standards for enrollment,” a Colorado State official responded.

This is the school that admitted Desert Vista's Xavier "I don't go to class" Kilby?

Uh-huh. Thought so. Now here's the ironic part: "X-man" just got X-ed out!

"Freshman reserve not making grades"

Do you even know whatyou are talking about? You do know the minimum requirements to get into UCLA isn't that hard....

Bug....70% of your atheletes are an exception.......Are you saying that "they didn't go here because of accedemic requirements" isn't the UCLA mantra everytime someone goes somewhere else. Isn't this laughable when 70% are exceptions????

Spin away....

No. The athletes themselves probably meet the minimum requirement, but they are far below that of which is normally allowed into UCLA.

From a UC site

Quote:
The GPA change was made as part of the University's efforts to keep the pool of UC-eligible students consistent with the target set out in the California Master Plan for Higher Education. That plan specifies that only the top 12.5 percent of California high school graduates should be considered eligible for UC admission. The minimum GPA required for nonresident applicants remains 3.4.
As you can tell right away, the minimum requirement to get into UCLA is much lower then the actual requirements. If most of thse kids applied to UCLA with what their standard GPA is, they probably wouldnt get in due to strict admissions

HEre is right off of the UofA website

Quote:
Applicants must have an unweighted overall grade point average of 2.0 (A=4.0) in each subject area and may not have more than two deficiencies. Students may not have deficiencies in both math and laboratory science or in the same subject area.
So I'd hope you have a much lower % then UCLA does as a 2.0 is the bare minimum GPA needed to get in at UofA, even though the actual GPA is much higher

70% are exceptions. So you admit that the "don't have ther grades" is a truly bogus arguement right???? Or did TJ and Freddy just get stupid once they got to UCLA????

You think your atheletes had 3.4 GPA's??????? or were in the top 12.5% of their class.

That's just it. It would be Stanford-esque to only accept recruits with a GPA over 3.0. UCLA does lower its standards below the minimum, no UCLA fan denies that.

Whose Freddy?

I get this feeling you don't even read what I wrote, you just type down whatever crosses your mind.

I've given you some figures, I can't help you understand anymore.

Huh?

UCLA fan routinely paints this as an extraordinary occurence. They only get one silver bullet for a special player every few years. Please.

Remember, we were told Gil Arenas, Richard Jefferson and Miles Simon never could have made it through the rigorous UCLA admissions office.

It's time for UCLA fan to just admit it, they can get in any athlete they want as long as they meet the NCAA minimum.

Wow, you've turned down a couple of total cluster****s like Burns.

I guess it's a testament to the greatness of the UCLA student-athlete that you have to compete strictly with unathletic 3.0 students like JaRon and TJ Cummings and Jerome Moiso. Awesome!
