Would you make this trade if you are Phoenix?
Amare Stoudemire.......... 15 million Steve Nash.................... 12 million Grant Hill........................ 2 million ------------------------------------------- TOTAL................ roughly 29 million - Portland Trades - Raef LaFrentz................. 13 million LaMarcus Aldridge............ 4 million Travis Outlaw.................. 4 million Ike Diogu........................ 3 million Jerryd Bayless................. 2 million ------------------------------------------ TOTAL................ roughly 27 million Portland does this: They covet a veteran PG and Nash is the best they could hope to attain at this point. Hill brings veteran savvy to their wing rotation and they obtain Amare with Nash, giving them a dynamic transition and pic-n-roll tandem. Their lineup is instantly upgraded to... PG: Nash, Blake... Rodriguez SG: Roy, Fernandez SF: Hill, Batum... Webster PF: Amare, Frye C: Oden, Pryzbilla Phoenix does this: They covet the nearly 17 million in CAP space obtained through the expiring contracts of LaFrentz and Diogu. They also receive three young players that are capable of being foundations on a team. Aldridge, the centerpiece, gives them a versatile PF with good defensive ability. His rebounding is a little suspect, but he brings an inside-outside attack on offense that can be built around to a high level. Bayless is the local prospect that has shown flashes of brilliance of late, averaging a semi-inconsistent 14 ppg, 5 apg/1.5 topg in roughly nine games of 20 minutes or more. Outlaw is a quality prospect that brings flair and talent for a bargain price of just 4 million per year. His deal expires in 2010 if things aren't working out. Phoenix trades two players who aren't in their longterm plans and who currently cost them 27 and 29 million this and next season for CAP space and two players who cost them an average of 15 million over the next three seasons, and whom they own the restricted rights to. I know it would be tough, but this team isn't going anywhere with the current roster. This gives them a nice foundation of talent to add with Barbosa and their 2009 1st rounder. Other trades should follow this, but the question is whether you are Suns fans would do this. Keep in mind, this trade is very similar to one the Phoenix ups refused already. |

A screaming yes.
Yeah, its Nash and Amare, but this Suns team has made all the noise they can and it's time to move stuff around. They'd be losing two starters who don't play defense. Ever. Even though they'd be losing much of their offense it isn't like they're going to win the finals this year and they'd be getting a very solid young core. Aldridge is awesome and Bayless and Outlaw will both be above average starters at some point. The Suns would go from a rapid decline over the next couple years to a team with a future. I might not even hate them anymore if they got Aldridge, Outlaw, and Bayless...well. When Shaq's gone, anyhow. I'll turn a blind eye to Ike - he was one of the more benign Scummies anyway. Is this actually happening? I'd be somewhat bummed as a Blazers fan, they should just stand pat until they're a top flight team next year or the year after that. |

I don't think PDX would trade Bayless, Aldridge and Outlaw alone for the 3 Suns---while the expiring contract might be the most valuable part of the whole deal.
Maybe Bayless and the contract and filler for Amare? JJ Hickson, one of the Cav's expiring contract (Wally or Ben Wallace) and a pick for Amare? I'm guessing since the 3 way deal with Memphis and Miami has fallen through....the offers for Amare are less than inspiring. Last edited by Jerry's Kids; 02-14-2009 at 01:01 AM. |

While I really like Hickson, that would be the worst deal the Suns could agree to.
