...has the playing field in college athletics leveled off when it comes to college football? With each year that passes, it seems as though the smaller guys are not so small any more...and the bigger programs, not so big. You have Boise State beating Oklahoma in a major bowl, UTAH handling Alabama, etc, etc.

Has it always been this way? Or am I just noticing this more often b/c of the media coverage of David vs Goliath?

Utah beat a severely depleted Alabama and OU's coach has a recent history of struggling in big games.

I do think some programs have emerged, but I still don't see Utah or Boise winning 10 games in a major conference. The week to week grind requires depth those programs just don't have. Their starting line-up can play with anyone which makes the bowl games (when everyone has a chance to get healthy during the 6 weeks off) and early season games a bit easier.
